For research purposes only..

Quiet day in the office today as the market was closed. I pulled up the list on the Rolex wesbite of all the AD’s in the US and gave approximately 75 or so a call (Montana, Oregon, Alabama, Kansas, Florida, Texas, Ohio etc. you name the state I called multiple locations today). I inquired specifically if they had any SS Submariners, SS GMT II’s or SS Daytona’s available. I had some wonderful brief conversations with very lovely people working at these AD’s around the country. I received the exact same response from all 75+.. an unfortunate no. Not one piece I inquired about was available in stock at any of these locations (from what they told me over the phone of course). Amazing only a few years ago if I did this very same thing, almost every single one of these AD’s would have had a showcase full of all these models ready to sell to me immediately.

Why would they tell you yes over the phone?
Out of state call about a hot watch? Get out of here.

I think Siberia and the North Pole might have ADs there, hopefully the polar bears and whitewalkers didn't get to them first.

I thought ADs telling me people call in all the time regarding this was a tad off....thought they were exaggerating....who would have thought there are folks that actually do this. Hopefully others read this thread so they don't waste their time.

I wouldn’t do that on my company’s time and I have no supervisors. But to each his own.

Harmless item to spend one's time on. Forums can be seen as an equally wasteful endeavour

Thanks for taking the time to make the calls.

Assume 5 minutes per call, at 75+ calls, that's 375+ minutes or 6+ hours.

That's a solid day at the office. :)

Company time or not, it's pretty sad that all 75 had the same answer, no SS sub, gmt or Daytona (latter doesn't surprise me but the others...) How things have changed in the last year

Jeez, some folks are a bit hard on the guy. It's his time/job and no doubt he answers for what he does.
I'm a big fan of research. If you want to know something, do some research. Obviously you run the results through your BS filter but you are still ahead of making unfounded assumptions in the absence of any actual data.
Perhaps you could have predicted the result - that is how research is done - you state an hypothesis and then test it.
At worst, he found out that there are no SS Sports models available on offer to a telephone enquiry in the USA.

just because they said no over the phone, that doesn't mean they dont have at least one of those watches for a walk in customer. Particularly a sub

Im sure they have caller ID and calling an AD in Montana from whatever state you are in and its not like you were going to drive over and pick it up

I can imaging an AD website where they share stories about random phone calls each day looking for stock to flip.

Some great responses.. so quick to judge, but that’s understandable as I should have clarified in my original post. So I will now. I own the firm. The stock market was closed yesterday, I was the only person in the office. All of my employees had the day off. I did this after I finished all my necessary paperwork that I came in for. This was done in tandom while browsing these forums as I like to decrompress for a few hours knowing how stressful my upcoming work week will be. I enjoy the hunt and score. A colleague of mine did they same thing last week. He actually found an AD in the Midwest who said he had a white dial Daytona but he would have to pick it up in person. He was on a plane within two hours, taxi to the AD, paid for the Daytona, taxi back to the airport and flew home within the same day. This intrigued me, so I thought why not give it a shot. Harmless decompressing for me, that’s all.

phone calls to AD's though, thats a bridge too far

OP- thanks for posting. I’m not surprised about the stock levels, but still interesting nonetheless.

I did this in the UK twice, got the watch both times. A BLNR 9 months ago after calling 25 dealers and a GMT LN after 30 calls. The one I got the BLNR from also provided me a LVc within 2 months of me asking for one (about 6 months ago).
Just by being nice and talking about watches led me to get these pieces. Clearly doesn't work for everyone but don't ask, don't get.

I guess we need to stop calling to AD’s,
Let them call us and beg to buy from them.

More calls to AD’s, More shortage of watches and long waitlist.

Some of them went like this:

Caller: Would you have a ss sports Rolex?

AD: Nope, none, nada. Hung up.

It took 15 seconds. Can you redo the math to see how many mintes?

I did this last time I was home visiting in the US (one month ago) and had a lot of luck. I found 4 GMT LNs and two root beers. One would ship (the one I bought) and the rest required me to drive and pick it up (was too far so didn't want to make the trip for those ones). One of the ADs even called me a week later asking if I was still interested! While calling for the GMT, I was also offered a Sub (both date and no date), Air King and an Explorer II. The key is calling close to shipment dates.
