Mysterious vintage rolex
Hello guys
I need your help. A friend of mine recently gave me a vintage female Rolex and I don't have any clue which model it is or what's the reference number of it. I visited today my local watchsmith and my authorized rolex dealer, but both of them didn't know any information about the watch and saw it for the first time. The case and the bracelet of the watch are made out of 18k yellow gold. In the watch there's beating a Rolex cal. 1400 (handwound). If you have any information about this model, please contact me. I would be very thankful for any kind of help! Best regards |

Rolex has made dozens of non-oyster ladies 'cocktail' watches over the years. Well made but woefully out of fashion. Their value is either sentimental, grammy's watch, or just a slight premium to salvage value. Quite a bit of 18k gold there!

^^^Spot on. Really tough to get 'good' money for these watches. Sentimental or scrap essentially.

That would make a hell of a set of cuff links if you had two.

I see dozens of hours on Google image search in your future.
Do not believe the people saying the gold melt value is the same. Since it’s 18K gold would likely fetch $1500 melt. But retail prices for working models are between $2000 and $3500 depending upon its appeal - the bracelet is ornate and may help get a buyer at the upper end of that range. The one good thing that this ladies cocktail watch has compared to a lot of others we see is that this one was actually made by Rolex.
Most ladies cocktail watches were boutique made, meaning that a jeweler would buy a Rolex dialed movement and then build the case and bracelet around it to the customers liking. Being made by Rolex you have a likely chance of doing some detective work in getting a case model reference as well as a bracelet reference number.

If it helps any...
The Rolex calibre 1401 is a 15J or 18J manual wind, without seconds hand. 21600bph with "shock protecting device", based on the caliber 1400. |
