I love them too and I used to have tons of them on my vintage British mil. watches, that's what they were designed for. You do realise that the strap is supposed to be tucked back in towards the watch not outwards like in the pics. Between Nato's or G10's (which is the British military calls them) and Zulu's I do think I prefer Zulu's because you don't have the extra strap to fold, and I don't need to fit it over a flight suit.

I am a supporter though of them, even though many hate them. I am going to order a black Zulu tonight for my GMT II coke, I think it will look sweet and give a nice variety from always wearing bracelets.

I never knew that Trev - is there any reasoning for this?

I'm thinking about getting one for a watch I have so I have a question.

Seeing how the Nato's pass underneath the watch twice and the Zulu's once, is there a noticeable difference in the height of the watch when it's on the wrist I also know that there is a two piece strap option.

Thanks in advance

There are two G10 straps defined for use in the British forces. One with the watch back piece (3 rings) for use by Royal Navy and Army and one without this back piece (2 rings) for RAF. This is because the crabs (RAF), for some reason, don't like the additional height it adds to the watch.

The strap is a little over 1mm thick so that is all your adding to the height. I have NATO and ZULU straps and they are both very comfortable with the additonal height not being a factor.

I know the Nato strap has been talked to death on the forum. I am here to tell you there is no way more stress is put on the spring bars by a Nato. It has to be a more trusted setup then a bracelet (maybe not better looking, to some) you have to have both springbars fail to lose the watch. As for wear on the case back well the Military Issued Tudors have engraved case backs and they were only ever worn on Natos and I have never seen one with a casebak that looks worn down and they lived hard lives

I think it somewhat depends on the material. I have had some nato's that were so thin and flexible that the watch laid perfectly on my wrist and I have had Zulu's that were so rigid that it made the watch rise just a tad on my wrist. In my experience, once they get worn in they tend to lay just right on the wrist. I just bought another Zulu for my GMT so I will post some pics. when it makes it to my casa. Great pics. guys.

Unfortunately I don't have my dream 5512 to put on a NATO so I had to settle for this beauty

I think its easier to strap on myself, safer anyways. Besides, I dont like the hardware on the resting side of my wrist as it tends to scratch whatever its lying against like my MAC BOOK. More comfy I say too...
Thanks,
Randy

EDIT: Someone just pointed out to me that what you were talking about was the looping pattern by which you tuck the strap inside the hardware rather than loop outside, sorta doubling it up on itself and then passing it under the hardware. Cool too. I actually loop NATOs that way but the Zulus are over the hardware...
