Recommendation on how to sell a watch

Let me first start with this. I’m not thinking about selling right now; this is more a curiosity just in case I want to sell one of my watches in the future.
Some online stores ask for pictures and then for the watch to be sent first. There some horror stories of price cut or expenses to get the watch back.
For an owner like myself not looking for a quick buck just fair price and flawless transaction, what will be your recommendation?

I wanted out of my Black Bay and a Railmaster. I considered consignment which seems like a reasonable way to go if you just want to recover some value. I decided to at least give my Rolex AD a shot at trading and it worked out great. They gave me fair money and it was an enjoyable experience.

This is what I do. First sell it on this forum, easier and you can check feedback. If I trade with a trusted seller, I take a lot of hi-Rez pictures, so that any hairline scratches or imperfection is visible. This way there isn’t any chances of the seller coming back with a lower offer when they receive the watch, they know exactly what they are getting. Honesty is crucial. If you deal with a seller, they will send you all the fedex label and they will insure the package, so that part it easy. If I sell to an individual the process is the same except I am responsible for shipping and insurance. Jewelers Mutual has a shipping insurance available if your watch isn’t already insured, check with your insurance to se if they insure shipping jewelry’s . I find that hi Rez, well-lit pictures to be the most important, because it protect yourself as much as your buyer should something happens. I also like to keep things in writing, so my communication is mostly email, every phone call I may have is followed by an email summarizing the call.
My goal is that I never want to loose money on a deal, I want at the very least get what I paid for. So consignment may be nice, but your are sharing some of the money with the dealer...

I agree - I did this as my first deal on TRF as a newbie. I sent the watch I wanted to sell to Tony (justrolexes) and he made a fair offer.

I know this sounds crazy to some, but when a new member is trying to sell to a trusted longtime seller, you sometimes have to send the watch ahead of the payment.

As some have said, better off working with a trusted person and potentially taking a small hit to avoid the BS.

I like the idea of going back to my AD, I guess that is the fastest way but may also mean a bit if drop in price. This is the same as trading a car with dealer, less pain but not the best value

Going back to ur ad is like a 40-50% vs msrp sale usually. Just reach out to one of the trsted guys.

I would get a realistic value of the watch I was wanting to move by checking the Trusted Sellers web sites and then looking on Chrono24 for more information. If you are looking for a cash out expect to get between 5-15% less than trade value. I have sold before to individuals that are local, on ebay years ago, to Trusted Sellers and I have gone back to my AD. Of all of the options my choice would be my AD and then Trusted Sellers. If you bought the watch at retail or higher you might get your feelings hurt on the value unless it is one of the hard to get models from Rolex or PP. Do your research and get as much information as possible and make an informed decision.

I was extremely satisfied with my experience selling to Bob's Watches actually. They were seriously fast about it. Quick phone call, emailed some photos, they upped their bid $100 sent me all the stuff to ship it and wired the money upon receipt. I know I could have realized a higher price selling it myself, but because of my timing the demand for stainless my ownership only cost me $200 over a year in and out.

I totally get its a necessity if you have a watch addiction but its never pleasant. You never get what you want for it, the watch goes up in value just after you get rid of it always, then you have second thoughts/regrets, and depending on the watch its risky as being labeled a flipper can lead to trouble. its the worst part of the hobby by a mile.

If you dont need to sell and you are not a compulsive watch buyer, dont start.
