16710 Swiss only dial
Hi,
Is anyone able to give me any more information on a 16710 Swiss only dial (1999) The seller is saying they are more rare than that of the stick dial... Watch comes box, papered etc. Anything I need to look out for? Should the lume be different on a 1999 as they use luminova as opposed to super luminova? Pictures of lume please? Plenty will chime in here but I once own an A serial “Swiss” only dial 16710 with non SEL. I’ve seen various post and people say that a Swiss only dial is rare or even collectible. Put aside all the internet hype and find one that you like.

The lume of luminova (Swiss only) and Super luminova (Swiss made) are the same. Indeed the TRUE Swiss only dial with luminova only exist in year 1998 to 1999 typically from U and A series. Please do note that the other service dial also bear the Swiss only at six o clock. My pair of 16700 and 16710 both with Swiss only dial. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Now on the rarity, the seller is perhaps over amplifying a small window of time when SWISS alone adorned the dial. It is not rare enough to warrant a premium over other dials like SWISS MADE dials. True, it was used for a short period but many thousands were produced during that timeframe.

Yes- there were only two series with the SWISS dial. But so far that hasn't made the U and the A significantly more valuable/more collectible, imho from what I have seen.
I actually used to be obsessed with the Swiss only dial and for a time was hunting for the right A series. Then I realized that what I really wanted was a tritium dial so that it could possibly patina... So I ended up buying a mint full set 16700... Very happy. If you love that one get it. But condition (and ideally being a full set) is king. Dont overpay for something not in great condition just because it says SWISS.

Here it is, the seller wants £8450 and I got the link from someone on this forum - only thing is I was after something with SEL and it's that which is putting me off this.

The SEL solid end link started around 2000.
Non solid end link. Solid end link.

A serials ran well into the latter part of 1999 possible into early 2000, easy way to see if SEL by looking at bracelet from underneath. But no big deal SEL or no SEL, its only a slight improvement over non SEL. Watches like the Sub 14060m never had a SEL bracelet and many of those had a hard life underwater as working tools

Folded endlinks are awesome. I prefer them myself. If that's the only thing you don't like about the watch then that's minor. You can always buy another bracelet.

You would expect the 1999/2000 dials to be Swiss only dials, any model, so it is a point for verification, not a mark of "rareness", whatever that is. There is only one patent for Luminova/Super Luminova - they are the same paint. When the Swiss Nemo plant opened for watch Lume only, the name was changed, nothing more.

I purposefully sought out a swiss only dial 16710, if only for a modicum of uniqueness. Don't think I paid any more for it than the going market value at the time
