Where does the vertical scratch on the flank come from?
This is a scratch that’s appeared on my Exp, Exp II and GMT and I can’t think what’s causing it other than my cotton shirt cuff. The flank is obviously protected from hitting anything.
Anyone else get these? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you have any sleeves with metal buttons/ studs or zippers maybe?

That is weird as cotton shirt sleeves won’t scratch SS. I got that once from a zipper head on a jacket sleeve and once from a hotel glass door handle that had a large metal wing on it that hit my wrist. Don’t worry about it. After a while you don’t notice it any more and it’s just character.

A leather jacket could do this

Possibly when you take it off and place it down on something. I have similar scratches on my Explorer.

putting on or removing a jacket with a metal snap on the sleeve can do it. I've started making sure why shirt sleeve covers the watch before putting a coat on.

I have a leather jacket I wear relatively infrequently, there aren’t any metal studs or buttons on the inner cuff but you’re right that it is a likely culprit. I’m also a leftie but wear on the left wrist so it’s on the dominant hand, that could do it.
I’m not worried, just intrigued what could scratch SS so easily.

Probably case solved. I live in a high rise and I have to pick up my dogs to go down for a walk, the poodle goes in a backpack and I hold the dachshund. Likely when I put on/ take off the backpack it’s rubbing on the case for a second. Maybe I should just wear a Casio on the walk

Or...have no worries about the little mark. Alternatively, take a scotchbrite and brush the whole side to a nice matte finish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Where does the vertical scratch on the flank come from?
Nah...you just need an Apple Watch to count the steps during the doggie walk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Do you try 2 watches at the same time???
This could do it with the crown hitting the other watch, happened to one of the watches I bought brand new at an AD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I got a scratch exactly like that once from putting my watch hand inside my parrot's cage. As I pulled my hand out I caught the edge of my watch case on the top bar of the cage door opening. I won't be doing that again!

Think of the possible zippers that line a pocket of a jacket. When removing your hands out of a jacket pocket could scratch that back edge of the case.

Thanks all, so I can probably guess it’s all of the above minus the parrot cage! Jeans pockets, leather jacket, denim jacket etc. Oh well, not a whole I can do about it other than be a bit more careful.

If you're really concerned, and don't want to change you're routine or backpack. Cape Code the scratch and cut piece a of Cellotape to fit?

Didn’t Cape Cod the scratches but took your advice and put a small piece of scotch tape in the centre of the case side of each watch. Extreme perhaps but thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I kept getting the same
This happened to my BLNR, quite badly and consistently,
I think I know how recently though, I think it’s my jacket pocket that has a zip to fasten it. So when I walk with my hands in my jacket pockets, my watch sometimes rests on the zip and it think that’s where it’s come from. Could be similar for you |
