Crown Orientation - Basel pieces

Has anyone noticed that the images of the Basel releases do not feature crowns that line up perfectly when horizontal.

High five to whatever marketing person made that call

The only watch that has this as a feature is the PM SkyDweller. Press pics are just CGI, but in order to do this for Basel they'd need to comb through the output to find watches with the crown lining up... which is a 0.3% chance.... of course they didn't.

Maybe I should clarify, I understand why in real life the crown doesn’t line up (pm sky dweller excluded).

I raise the point because it is normal for their marketing cgi to show it perfectly lined up which has led many people to unrealistic expectations.

It’s good to see some new angles.

It's pretty obvious. In the real world, crowns don't align (outside of some Sky D's), so he's giving props for marketing a more genuine representation of the watch in real life.

Since when is it a "thing" to have the crown line up??
FWIW, Not something I ever look for or notice.

It's always been "a thing" for some people that do not understand the practical realities of how the "whole thing" actually works.
There's been plenty of threads on this forum and posts within threads regarding the Coronet allignment issue.
It's usually along the lines of "Surely Rolex could line the crown up. Why are Rolex so slack. I paid X amount of $ for this watch, and it's totally unacceptable". Etc etc etc.

OP, as much as there’s confusion, I get what you’re saying and I def think it’s nice for Rolex to start managing expectations for crown orientation, good catch!

I am totally anal about alignment and was totally bonkers over finding a lined up rehaute (crown at twelve)... but could give a rat's can about the crown being perfectly straight up at locked position. It's a moving part that will change a bit over time. Mine is at about ten o'clock when locked hard and it looks just fine to me.

I think we should make a much bigger deal of this misaligned crown issue so the pre-owned market gets flooded with tons of those "defective" watches at cut-rate prices

Are we talking about the crown on the face or on the crown?

It should be the Coronet on the Winding crown.

Funnily enough they never whinge about other brands over the same issue.
Perhaps Omega gets away with it because the Omega symbol is so forgiving in that respect.

Thank you

I agree, they give Rolex such a hard time. I think some people take perfection too literally.

My BLNR was the first one that had a perfectly aligned crown. I was so excited that I finally had one with it.

When the AD pulled out the BLRO in front of me, didn't even notice. I wasn't going to say no over silly crown alignment.

Reality is you're going to take whatever you're offered no matter the crown position and you're just going to have to deal with it.

I don’t think they are supposed to line up. It’s luck of the draw based on how screws/threads work etc. They prob got tired of the emails and service calls about it.

Not to anyone familiar with previous discussions on the "issue." The winding crown not always landing with the logo oriented neatly bothers some people.

My BLNR aligned perfectly after it came back from the RSC for regulation. Three years later, the gaskets have compressed and it goes another quarter turn. Fortunately, I don't much care.

Crown Orientation - Basel pieces

Pretty funny because when I bought my Air-King, the crown lined up perfectly. Didn't notice until I got home, but was stoked to find it that way.

Makes it easier for me to give it a quick glance and make sure it's locked down before going swimming or taking a shower.

Not sure why so many people consider the crown being perpendicular to the crown on the dial to be correctly lined up.

In an ideal world, I would have the crown face the same direction as the one on the dial. Up when looking at the watch like you would normally look at a watch.

That being said, it would be a nice touch, but it doesn't matter.
