New 42mm YM vs 42mm Exp II

For less than 1/3 the price for a 42mm on a rubber strap, wouldn't you rather the Explorer II on Rubberb vs the new WG YM?

Nope. And I own both black and white EXP2. WG on OF is a whole different level.

Both are in different range. The people who wear and tho who will notice around them will know whats an Explorer II and whats the value of YG 42 in white gold!

My daily is a 42mm Explorer II and I am super stoked to buy a new Yacht-Master 42.

Last year I was very excited about Baselworld but nothing released interested me at the time (ended up with a couple of them none the less). This is the first year where a watch truly excites me at release. Sorry guys, this show was obviously aimed directly at me ;-)

This question came from those who have never owned or tried on the PM models.
Once on wrist there are no more questions.

I like the YM but not for $27K.. Had Rolex put it out in SS I would have bought one.

New 42mm YM vs 42mm Exp II

As someone mentioned earlier - two totally different references. I’d never purchase a PM watch. I prefer the SS Professional models because I wear them at work and in the wilderness. I’d rather take the funds I’d spend on a PM and use for travel and investments. I prefer to be more low key (as much as possible wearing a Rolex - lol).

Different strokes for different folks. That’s why there’s a great variety in the Rolex catalog.

And might as well add a pic of my Exp II on bracelet:

nice piece. I would rather have your watch, your oyster bracelet, a Rubberb strap AND 13 Gold 1oz Krugerrands in my safe than the new 2019 YM.

Independent of what people comment, the new YM will sell out.

I didn’t realize until now that it has a mini glide lock clasp with 15mm of adjustment.

The new WG YM is not for me (too big and don't really care for rubber at that price point) but I can see why people like it. I bet it will look great in person.

I think it is a good looking watch. If I had mountains of money and a large existing collection I’d buy one.

But there are probably 8 watches I’d want to have first.

No can’t stand the explorer II bezel.

Also won’t buy the new YM if it was in SS I could maybe seeing it happen.

I'm extremely partial to the Explorer II, but I'm also intrigued by the new YM42. I'm excited to see it in person. I think it looks fantastic in pictures.

It is a loud and clear statement from Rolex that the oysterflex YM is not intended to target the middle class customers. It will be PM only, and may add the YG version next year.

It could probably be a hot product with long WL if releasing as SS but Rolex chose not to. It appears Rolex doesn't need that money and the market.

I struggled a little bit with the all black tool-like appearance considering the YM is supposed to be dressier than the Sub. That's what I like about the regular YM.

However I'm warming up to this YM42. I might have been interested in SS in spite of owning a YM40 already, but denitely not interested in WG.

The size is perfect, the bezel looks pretty good. It comes with a glide lock on the clasp. I think it's a great piece. If Rolex decide to make it in SS at some point, I'd give it a try. However I seriously doubt they'll release it in SS in light of their TT+PM late strategy.

I would never buy a watch that didn't come on a bracelet. I am ok with a Rubber strap or a NATO as a way to OCCASIONALLY change things up a little and add some variety to the look, but in my mind, a Rolex should come with a Metal bracelet whether it be an Oyster or a Jubilee, and those other options are "end-user" options that each person can add or take away. That's why personally, I think the new 42mm Yachty is a rip off. Sure it's White Gold, but your only getting a case that's white gold, not a full bracelet...and it's $30K. That's a ridiculous price for this piece.

At least with the Explorer II, you get matching hands.

I hadn't noticed that. That would drive me crazy. Whenever I checked the time a voice in my head would say, Why?

I think they did a pretty good job with the new YM. I wouldn't drop that kind of coin on a sport watch, so I'll stick with the Exp 2. I'm saving my PM coin for a DD.

That new ceramic bezel looks pretty sharp. I could see them adapting it for a Exp 2 someday, even though I like the SS bezel on the Exp 2.

I was actually hoping they would keep the 40mm size. That's the most dissappointing. I don't understand why they need a 37, 40, 42 version now. The 40mm RG version was a great size.

Between the 42 YM vs 42 Exp 2, based on pure aesthetics, I like the YM more. If it was a SS YM, I think the opinion of many would change!

Ditto.

I love the YM reference, as I own a few, but each time I look at the dial on this thing all I can see is the mismatched hands. Just like the Snowflake hand on the Tudors. I cant stand it, some nice watches but id never own one with that ghastly snowflake hand.
