Any thoughts on BRM watches?
Hey fellas,
Any thoughts on BRM watches? I had a few of their watches on my wrist today - trying them out for a potential "next" watch... Just wanted to gather some thoughts on them...

I had never heard about them until now.
So I shall look forward to reading some of the posts.

Interesting cases - modded 7750 movements in the chrono's (but, hell, so is in the Hublot Big Bangs, which list between $10k and $100k). But the cases ARE very interesting, Bernard Richards followed the racing theme very, very well!
Hold their values pretty well (most models) and are great conversation pieces.

Never held or seen one in person but the designs are pretty cool. I just wonder if the design is too cool as to make reading the dial somewhat difficult. Kinda pricey too. Very unique though.

I have an AD nearby (sorta, 14mi away) and is one of the few dozen ADs in the USA for BRM.
What I like: - Small company feel, a boutique watchmaker. You can call the president of the BRM USA and talk to him re the watch. - They can work with your watch very quickly, no more 2-4 month wait for your watch to be serviced. - Personal service and personal touch, very easy to switch around your watch. If you don't like the dial or the hands, you can send it in for a tune-up and a change of parts. What I don't like: - Run of the mill valjoux movement in the lower end watches. - Very casual look, cannot wear with formal clothing. I liked the V6, but not enough to spend the 3-4K on one. The V12 is too busy and I don't need another chronograph. V6 on right, V12 on left: What I REALLY liked was the big BRM R-50, their own movement, a unique look and a very "small 50mm" which actually fits on my wrist (<7in)! The movement is suspended, it is see-through with sapphire on the back. The rotor is AWESOME, it spins with minimal movement and it you can see it rotate. The movement is shaped like an engine also! FANTASTIC watch! A wonderful conversation piece and a grail watch for me. And don't let the 50mm push you away, it actually fit me better than the Omega PO 45.5mm version (it's the lugs!)...

Joey - that is very informative! You're right, I can't deal with paying over $3K for a Valjoux watch... never has been for me.... But that last one is gorgeous! Probably hard to find, huh?

The last one is hard to find but my AD has one and he discounts 30% for all watches BRM... bringing the $22K R50 to $15K. In the land of expensive timepieces, I doubt anything catches the eye like the R50.
BRM is such a small mom and pop company that I don't see why you can't have a BRM dealer call up BRM and have them make you an R50. It'd probably take a good month, but the results are STUNNING! These guys produce less than 5000 pieces a year.... definitely an exclusive watchmaker. My next grail..

Joey, Who in the Chicago area carries BRM? I'd love to go check them out.

Joey,
Thanks buddy. Thanks a lot. Now I am trying to figure out what to sell to get that BRM. Just found one at about 40% off at one of my dealers - but that is still over 13k.... Man, it is a curse - this watch obsession!

This guy is not an AD - rater a light-grey dealer like myself. He only buys form AD's, but in bulk, hence the big ol' discounts. I have been looking at my collection trying to figure out what to sell and can't think of anything.... Maybe my wife's Ulysse Diver - nah, she'll kill me

And Richard Mille is nice, indeed. However, very different from BRM. I would find it more comparable with Cvstos - http://cvstos.ch/ or Urwerk on the high end http://www.urwerk.com/ Later!
