Would I regret selling my BLNR for this?

I only have 2 watches, a Submariner Sub 116610 and a BLNR. I love both watches, got my Sub as a wedding gift so that's never leaving my collection and feeling like the pieces are similar enough where I might want to change it up. Unfortunately to add new pieces right now I'd need to part with the BLNR. Given what it's currently going for, I could add the following pieces:

Dress Watch: Nomos Tangente 38
Chrono: Omega Speedmaster
Military: Hamilton Field Khaki
Dive: Oris Diver 65
GMT: Tudor Black Bay GMT

Do you like this switch, or should I just stick to having 2 watches that are both amazing but also not very diverse. Thx TRF!

Keep the 2 you have. Don’t get rid of quality for a bunch of quantity. Save up some some and down the road add the Speedy and/or the Tudor.

Why the Oris? You’ve already got a great dive watch.

I’d also leave the Hamilton off.

Finally, trading a Rolex GMT for a Tudor one is sure to leave you unsatisfied.

If you want a GMT complication, the Explorer II would be a good choice and you could get it with a polar dial to add some color to your lineup (the NOMOS may have a colored dial; I don’t know them as well).

That’d leave you with:

A Speedmaster Pro (a must in any WIS collection): $3500
A NOMOS Tangente: $2000
An explorer II: $8000

Seems like a good repurposing of funds. Get the speedy and NOMOS second hand so you don’t take a bath on the price.

Given that getting $14k for a BLNR right now isn’t a stretch, you’ll come out slightly ahead with a much more interesting collection.

I have the same two in my collection amongst others. But I would not consider them to be the same. Beside the black dial, they are entirely different watches. IMHO, I would keep them both.

Just curious as to why you feel they are the same watch?

I have done in the past a similar thing as you are thinking of doing now. I recently reconsolidated by selling most of the odds and ends I had acquired and bought another high quality Rolex. The variety was fun for me until the novelty wore off and I stopped rotating them in. A rule I made for myself after all this trading is I only trade Rolex for Rolex now (obviously +/- cash). Once you trade something like the BLNR for those 5, if you want to go back it’s a lot harder selling those lower demand watches.

Keep it.

None of those alternative watches can compare.

Or just sell it and be a one watch one - wife kind of guy.

I’m a big fan of the Speedmaster, Nomos Tangente, and the Hamilton Khaki, but there’s no way I’d give up the BLNR to get those 3 plus the other 2 in return.

Plus, I can’t imagine it being cost prohibitive to keep the BLNR and adding the Hamilton and Nomos almost immediately.

keep the two you have now or sell the Sub if you need to raise funds for a new watch.

You gotta know when to hold’em...

Keep what you have, a diver and a GMT. You can add something else, down the road.

As the others have said, keep those two beauties and enjoy them. Other people may disagree, but since I started wearing Rolex 30 years ago, my Hamilton Ventura, Seikos, etc. get very little wrist time. I like them, but nothing beats that feeling of slipping on the Rolex first thing in the morning. Or afternoon, evening,....you get the picture.

By all means, do what makes you happy, but there might be regrets down the road.

Mark

I would definitely not do that trade, it would be a serious downgrade in your collection. However, have you considered trading your BLNR for DJ40 and an Exp2 Polar? That would spice up the collection a bit and give you 3 great watches that are all very diverse....would prob not cost you much to do that trade if you went smooth bezel on the DJ.

Many say you should keep it, but having traded away the BLNR myself I would definitely do it now when prices have jumped. Not heard anyone actually sell at these high prices though. Anyway, I think the proposal above is a good one if you do trade. But skip the Nomos and get JLC instead.

No way

There is a gold Moser for sale on the forum for about what your used BLNR is fetching, now that and your sub would be a sweet pair

I would not. I have 3 similar watches (SubC, BLNR, and 16710) but still enjoy each one differently.

Its better to have one great watch than 10 mediocre watches. Omega Speedmaster is an exception. BLNR is a great watch. I'd say keep it.

If you wanted to move the BLNR, I think it would make more sense to sell it to fund a PM or move up to AP. If those options don't seem to desireable I would hold out / save up to add the other pieces you want over time.
