My Rolex was recognized

I have been wearing my Daytona with White MOP 8 Diamonds Dial for a year now & to my amazement it was noticed as a Rolex last week. I live in Dublin Ireland which is a very small country & Rolex wearers are very rare. People over here would find it hard to justify spending so much for a Watch, so you see very few wearing one, mainly young professionals in medicine & the justice departments. So it really surprised me when a shop assistant noticed it

I know how you feel. You'd think that this would be common, but it's not. I was out recently and someone noticed my SD43 (he thought it was a sub but I had to set him straight). Anyway, he also owned a Rolex so we had a nice, brief conversation about watches. It was kinda nice to have a real person (as opposed to our virtual friends on this forum) recognize and appreciate my watch.

Yes it is nice but over here there is only one Rolex AD in my city no Grey Dealers & about four who deal in used Rolex’s so it is very rare you see someone wearing a Rolex. People over here would not understand how someone would spend € 20,000 plus for a Watch

To have your Watch recognized as a Rolex is one thing but to have someone recognize the Model is asking a bit much over here

Although there are countless millions of Rolex watches in this world today its mainly the WIS type that might make any comment or care whatever watch one was wearing.Myself been wearing Rolex watches for around 50 years now and have seen most of the wide world we live on today.Yet you could count on one hand the number of times anyone has made any comment about any watch I was wearing. And would expect even in Dublin there are hundreds of Rolex wearers even if they were shop assistants.

That was not meant as a slur to shop assistants, I was just pointing out where it was recognized, I have the upmost respect for everyone regardless of their position in the wider community

I think you are missing the difference here! People noticing is one thing and people commenting is another. There are lots of people who notice watches but only few who actually compliments or comment on another person's watch. You are mixing the two!

I had my first "that's a really nice watch" about two weeks ago, and I've been wearing luxury watches for years. Of all people, it was an early-20's grocery store employee who was giving away free samples of organic apple slices.

In Ireland I think a Rolex is still considered a really big deal of a watch or that someone wearing one must be minted. Oddly no-one here looks twice at someone with a Bmw/Merc that's a lot more expensive.

BMW/Mer lose value fast and can be bought cheap.

I think social media is really bringing a lot more watch brands to mainstream society.

Random person in my office today "hey that's the same Rolex Tiger was wearing at the Masters, saw it on instagram".

Also was in Vegas last week at a conference and someone commented on my Patek 5168g. Said his friend was really into watches and that's the one he wants and I could probably sell it for way more than I paid. Just nodded and said they have been doing well lately.

In 15 years of collecting watches comments are usually rare. On occasion they would say that's a cool looking watch but to know the brand and model was surprising.

it just shows you how many people do recognize the brand & I do take onboard the argument made by another person on this thread that many people recognize the brand but not all will comment on it

Yes I get where your coming from but it seems acceptable for someone to drive a BMW or Mercedes but for someone to spend €20,000 plus on a Watch is very uncommon in this country

I hate to say it but majority of Rolex customers are who want to show off their 'Rolex' to others. To say no one notices Rolex is a huge myth. If no one noticed or cared, it would not had such a high demand and sold out everywhere!

I’d echo this to an extent. Outside of watch sales assistants in the Irish watches dealers I’ve noticed about 6 Rolexes on wrists in Dublin, Cork and Galway in the past 2-3 years and admittedly I do notice people’s watches. Obviously population is small relatively speaking but there is still a bit of a perception that you are very rich if you own a Rolex. Most haven’t heard of the likes of Patek, AP, ALS etc.

only ever had 1 chat with a fellow WIS on a train when I saw him wearing his Hublot Classic Fusion Black, just to ask him "how on earth he could read the time"..... he'd had no end of problems with it, two crowns and spent more time in AD than he'd worn it.

I rather smugly told him i'd never had a problem with any of my Rolex like that

I totally agree with you that other luxury brands go completely unrecognized. Most people over here would think it unthinkable to spend so much on something as trivial as a Watch

Well now that Rolex advertises there watches as comic books names, will Rolex becoming a mass produced Micky Mouse product in the near future only known by comic book names.

Oh,people notice,they just don't comment .

I have made many positive comments to stranger wearers, reactions differ and if it is negative ,well frankly,I dont give a sh#t. Mosly very positive and I do put up a friendly face just to make sure I do not come across as a robber.

How is the stainless supply at Weir & Sons Ireland?

I'll be in Dublin again next month.

Virtually non-existant. Waiting lists as bad as or worse than London.
