Help me decide
Hi all,
I’m a new member on the site but have been lurking for a while. I’m looking for advice on my first nice watch. My current collection is as stands: Apple Watch and older Oris tt1 diver. The Oris is currently getting repaired due to mainspring that busted. It was also neglected for over 10 years! My budget is around $6k. This will be my last watch for a good while as I have two boys in private school and selling the wife on one is hard enough:-)! I’m looking at Tudor black bay 58, white 39mm op and smooth bezel Datejust 41. I work in an environment where a “typical” Rolex will get many smart comments and looks. Not sure that that matters really. I have a local AD Ben Bridge that I have been talking with. I may save for the subc no date. Sounds like I can get one at some time from them but no real timeline. I’m 5’10” active dad bod lol! I hunt, fish, golf and mountain bike. We have a pool at the house so I’d love to not worry about what is on my wrist if I want to jump in! My wrist is 7.5” per the string measure. Anyways thank you guys for any help! -Adam |

I would suggest to save for the Sub. It suits your described image better than the other great alternatives you have. OP39 and DJ41 are in my opinion a little too dressy for hunting and stuff, although they are tough enough to do it. Smooth bezel (and PCLs if we are talking oyster bracelet) of the DJ will get scratched fast, something to keep in mind if this kind of things bother you. BB58 has a lot of personality and is rather versatile, but Sub is an icon and makes a perfect one-watch collection. Moreover, you will be more satisfied with the purchase in a long run if you stretch the budget than if you leave some money in your pocket :)

Welcome! I would seriously consider a sub no date that’s a few years old. It would look great on a 7.5 wrist. Second, Datejust.

If I were you, my order of preference would be BB58, OP39 and DJ.
Since you lead an active kind of life, the DJ would probably be the least desirable as it is the dressiest one of the three. Both BB and OP dress up or down nicely, so basically it boils down to the budget. Then again, a Rolex is always a Rolex.

Among those and with your desire to simply wear without thinking twice, sub without a doubt. Good luck deciding.

From the options you listed I would go with DJ41

Don't bother with the tudor, you'll regret not getting a Rolex and will have to start over. If you want to buy new you'll bee limited with what the AD has in stock.
The datejust is waterproof and will tick all the boxes as an everyday watch and you stand a far greater chance of getting one in this century than some of the other models. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |

Explorer 1 would fit at your budget and is sporty/classic enough to fly under the radar. Then again I'm partial ;)

Honestly, save for the sub. I believe the no date version is $7500 so you’re not far off.
An explorer 1 could be a decent option, but the price difference to the sub is small and I feel like the sub is A LOT more watch. Long term, if you’re only getting one, I think you’ll be better off with the sub.... In the US it’s not that hard to get. Once you’re ready with money in hand I bet your AD delivers it relatively quick

If you like the size and proportions of the BB58, and want an absolute classic sports Rolex, consider a Sub 14060.
All of the watches you mention will do fine in pool. The Datejust and OP are great pieces, too. I'd skip the BB58. |

I know you didn’t list it, but seriously consider the Submariner. ND is almost within budget. I’d save up, wait, and get the Sub.

Sub, sub, sub! Only a bit more than the explorer and it's a classic.

Wow so many responses! I’m leaning towards save for new sub no date or blue Datejust. The Oris is a beater diver tool watch. So I feel like the sun could be redundant?
I have tried on an explorer and no like! I think I’d like the full AD experience!! |

I think the DJ is a much better “only” watch than the Sub. I vote DJ41.

If it were me, I'd save for the SubC or strongly consider a used 16610.

Save for what you really want - the Sub. I love the Explorer. If you like it, you’d save a few bucks.

SubC >> DJ smooth. Agree w others, if it’s the sub that is #1 in your eyes then save longer. It won’t be redundant w the Oris

I love my Submariner, but you should try one on even if all you can find is a TT. My BLNR is slightly more comfortable as the Submariner will stand off the wrist slightly.

If I were you I'd look into the original Explorer and try to source one of those. Your wrist is a 1/2" bigger than mine so I'm not sure if it'd just look like a baby watch on you, but no different than the OP would. I tried on a DJ41 a few weeks and it looked too small for my taste. The Tudor might be the right buy in this instance. Much more value than you'd get on the lower end of the Rolex scale IMO. Also, none of the dealers here have anything SS anyway. Definitely some DJ41's but compromises everywhere, including fluted bezels and jubilee bracelets raising the price, plus odd colored dials. |

Welcome to the forum. I would go for the Sub, a watch for all seasons imho.
