The watch that grows on you?
What experience does everyone else have of a watch growing on them?
Keep finding myself more and more enraptured with my Milgauss. Bought somewhat out of a "feed the need" basis to keep me in the good books with AD (I put my name down for a Submariner LV on the day I purchased this from their stock). Already owned a BLNR bought from the same AD, which was my first and worn daily before the Milgauss (I now alternate). When I was choosing which to bring from UK to NYC for the week this week I chose the Milgauss on the basis it was a bit more 'under the radar 'and less likely to draw attention in a city away from home. I love the BLNR as my first (and the one I wanted when I knew nothing other than I wanted a Rolex), but having had the Milgauss on for 5 straight days I find myself with idle moments just twisting my wrist to watch the light play off the dial and glass. Beautiful. A watch that I think is truly underrated and looks so much better in person than in a picture.

Cool thread.. I had a 116613LB which grew 'off' me for several years until I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. Now I have a 116610LN and I seem to love it more and more every day, a keeper for the rest of my life for sure.

This one has grown on me to the point I don't really much want to wear anything else.

I've had both the z blue milgauss and the explorer at one point in time. Parted with the milgauss as the explorer is just pure perfection.

I love this watch as a daily tool watch, but it can be so much more. It took me a while to realize how much I really love it. So much so that I sold it and then bought it back within a week or so.

My 116520. It was a grail watch for me for over a decade. Then I finally got mine (white dial) and found myself struggling with the legibility, excessive shine, lack of functionality in some ways. Perhaps things just can’t live up the the power of the imagination or perhaps the thrill of the chase.
However over the past few months, I have been coming to terms with these issues and it is re-growing in me lol. For example, the watch is shiny...yes. But unlike my other watches and appears somewhat dressy but also still sporty. I don’t have another watch with PCL so different can be good. The screw down pushers are a pain but make it water proof far more than my speedy. The while dial is incredibly versatile and compared to the current Daytona with while dial and black subdials walks the like between dressy and sporty better. The overall limited functionality has made it s perfect vacation/weekend watch as it matches anything from a sport jacket to swim trunks and holds up exceptionally well in the water. I don’t need the chrono so much in vacation as I need during the work week and also no use for the date. So in sum, it was really finding the best spot in the rotation for the Daytona. For me it would never be a daily wearer and was leading to my dissatisfaction with it. Once I found its spot, I have been much happier with it. |

Zenith Daytona.
After buying them years ago, I thought I had grown bored of them after a while and considered selling. Now it's the complete opposite and so glad I never parted with them. Love them more than ever. Z-Blue Milgauss is a great watch OP!! |

I would have to say the 114300 OP. I saw it and liked the simplicity of the dial, along with the brushed center links, but thought it may be too plain, or too boring. I saw one at my AD and was 50/50 on it, but got it to try it and see what happened. Well, I liked it more and more each day and finally it became my most worn piece. It really does everything and can be worn on a hike, with a suit, in the pool, or in a cocktail party. I recommend it!

Both the white and black sunburst have really grown on me. Great deal vs the Exp1 too. IMO the Classic Rolex is always the OP |

My BLRO love is something of a saga. I admired the 5-digit GMT Master for decades but never ponied up the $$ to get one. Ever since Magnum PI in 1984 when I first saw the watch I wanted one. I was worried though that a 40mm watch would be too small on my 7 3/4" wrist. I was wearing a ~42mm Omega Seamaster.
I had bought an early DSSD and didn't like the fit. Great watch but it sat too tall on my wrist for it's diameter. The geometry was all wrong for me. I wore it a couple times, maybe two hours wrist time in total, and put it away for a couple years. Didn't think about it and went back to my Seamaster(s). Found this forum when I was exploring ditching the DSSD finally and that little lightbulb went off above my head. "Sell it, or TRADE it??" Hmmm... I inquired with a bunch of trusted sellers but only one answered me. I had no history here so it's understandable that I was ignored. But @SohAIS got back to me on the possibility of a trade and actually schooled me on the what's what of GMTs. We agreed that he would inspect my watch first, and since he was a trusted seller with a store in Atlanta I felt good about shipping the watch to him for a look. He had a 16710 BLRO that (at the time) was of similar value, and personally I didn't care if he got a better deal. I was buying to wear it and I had no interest in ever wearing the DSSD, so it was perfect. I was over the moon with my new 16710 BLRO. Box and papers too even though I didn't care about anything but the condition of the watch. After wearing it for a month or so I began to feel that maybe it was too small. Just a hair too small, but still perhaps just under my comfort zone. 42mm is probably ideal. It started getting less wrist time and my Omega Speedmaster got more. Then, after a couple weeks of straight Speedy time, I began to miss the smaller and colorful BLRO. And now it's back! My tastes are like a pendulum, swinging through equilibrium constantly from one extreme to another.

Congratulations on the Z-Blue. Fun, different and very twinkly.
I did have a watch that grew on me once. I got the bracelet professionally deep cleaned and that fixed it. |

Some beauties there everyone.
Sorry for the initial post and then lack of engagement, maybe should have waited until I got back from NYC. Great city by the way, and at least I now know the situation in AD's is exactly the same across the pond. Another shot of the Milgauss "accessorised" and the first purchase, the one that grew on me from the moment O first saw it on the Rolex website in 2013. Didn't do anything about it until March 17 then got the call late Nov 17. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |

Brother in law had an Air King, lovely watch. My fault he doesn’t have it any more. He came to the AD with me when I picked up the Milgauss, saw a pre-owned Deep Sea Sea Dweller in their pre-owned selection. Couple of hours later we were back in there after he’d had some thinking time over a beer and a burger, and he traded the Air King and a Bremont plus a bit of cash for the DSSD.
