Icon6 New 16613 blue sub or Used

Trying to decide if it's worth buying a used Blue. Submariner. I find early 90's 16613's for about $4750 and found one place selling 2008--new $6800.
My thinking is my new sub will be worth $6800 in 15 years so in effect I don't loose anything. Anybody know what a 1992 blue rolex sold for in 1992? Or know what the depreciation of a 16613 is?
thanks for your input.

Sorry for asking, but are you buying a watch to enjoy or to make an investment ?

Why don't you buy shares instead ?

Shares in what? He might lose everything if he buys shares.

Trying to understand your point of view.

Buying new, you loose immediately part of the value, but if you intent to keep it for years, this is the right approach, as you have a watch that you know will last.

Buying pre-owned, especially of an age more than 5-7 years, you save money, but you may also face problems, as you do not know what the watch has been through.

In both cases, in a future projection, the money loss is the same, start low you go much lower, (unless you end up with a rare vintage which in the blue is not the case), or start higher and end in middle.

So, to me, check your finances and proceed accordingly.

I would go for a used, as I would have the same watch with less money, but not that old.

P.S. When you ask an open question, you shall be prepared to get many answers. My question was not to insault you, but to exprore the reasons why you set such a question.

The new one is a great deal. I bought my 16613 new from an AD in March of '08 for $7400 with tax.

for about $5k you should be able to do better than a 90s model... unless it JUST had service..

The retail price for a 16613 in 1992 was around $4,750 - $4900

I will buy new (2009) for only $6,675.-

for sale at TRF....Much cheaper in comparison than 17 years ago

Used. The early 90s Sub will not have SEL and the clasp on the TT bracelet is steal, not gold. Very nice watch.

I would buy new. The bracelets on the 16613's can stretch over time, due to it's bi-metal construction. $4700 for a early 90's 16613 is not that great of a deal, as others have pointed out. If you are going to buy to wear for a long time, buy new !
