plenty of choices both new and used with that budget. best to surf the internet and see what kind of watches you like and then it will be much easier to work within your budget.

Depends what style you're after, for a dive watch I don't think you can do better than Seiko Prospex for under $1000

This is my SPB051

Seiko gives you good bang for your buck. Take a look at the Bulova Lunar Pilot

Plenty of Omegas, possibly a Rolex precision.

true that. $1000 opens up many possibilities in the second hand market. so far i see our OP bought an Eterna Kontiki reissue which is a very cool watch so it seems he has a good eye already. despite the internet hype, the watch collecting world is not centered around rolex and other expensive brands. i think it's important for one to be aware of and open to all the other watch choices to get full enjoyment of this hobby. right now i'm wearing a vintage 70's Seiko bell-matic alarm and enjoy that just as much as any rolex in our stash.

let's not forget Tag Heuer. here's our men's size Aquaracer diver. ETA quartz powered and rugged as all heck. good looker too. these things can be picked up second hand between $400 to $600 all day long and have always been a favorite of ours. don't look down on quartz...reliable and easy to get fixed if ETA powered. great grab and go watches as no need to wind and set the time every time one is heading outa the house

Your question is much like, "what car should I buy".

Well, we don't know. What do your like?

Electric or gas. Sports car or SUV. Family car or two seater.

If you don't know what you want or like, how would we?
