Let’s play this or that! AP Royal Oak panda Chronograph or White SS Rolex Daytona C?

Hello fellas!
These are dangerous circumstances for me. I have some downtime some extra cash, and I am looking to add a Chronograph to my collection.

I have it down to these two beauties.
The RO panda Chronograph in Blue or white I have not decided which I like more.

Or the Rolex Daytona ceramic. I like both the black-and-white; however, I find white easier to read.

I would not be paying a premium for the Daytona, since my AD assures me I will have one sometime this year.

The RO I would probably be buying slightly used and slightly under retail.

I would usually go for the Rolex since I love the brand; however, I have accumulated quite a few, and would not mind giving another AP a run. I owned ROO titanium, But found the dial a bit unbalanced, and I also did not like the way it presented on my 7 1/4’’ wrist on the strap or the bracelet. What I did love was the craftsmanship which got me looking at the 41 mm chronograph.

My question to those with (unlikely experience w/ both) is how does the Royal Oak compared to the Daytona. Is the Daytona a shrinking violet in comparison to the Royal Oak making it worth the extra coin, and if so is the Royal Oak comfortable on a 7 1/4+ wrist?

Any advice would be helpful. Here’s a pic of the two.

I don’t dig AP styling one bit, at any price point. Wouldn’t wear it, ever. No disrespect, they’re just not for me.

I love the AP, but if you can get the Daytona for MSRP, not sure how you pass that up

The sharp lines of the AP don’t do anything for me. go Daytona. If you don’t like, sell for a good profit with a clean conscience and get the AP.

I'd take the AP if I was you, has a true Panda dial or a blue dial, both really nice, and it is a better size for your wrist, mine is 7 inches and the D500 feels on the small side for sure, but makes it a great daily plus the CE, which the ROC isn't so much, so that is best in a collection which you have.

Well, for me, the AP. Honestly, to my eyes and mind, it is simply at another level. I believe you can handsomely pull it off size wise.

Very good point I have never been a watch flipper, but this makes sense in the event that I do not get along with the Daytona.
I guess my biggest complaints with it are the screw down pushers and it’s size.

I’m a tona guy but I couldnt fault you for going AP here. It’s a “nicer” watch. Are you ok with scratching the bez? I plan on adding a 38 version so both will be my answer.

That has also been a consideration of mine. One of my biggest pet peeve’s is big scratches on a watch. That said, I believe I would wear this watch sparingly, since I usually wear a Hulk or Tudor Pelagos as a daily.

The AP has better quality, fit, and finish but the Daytona c will hold its value better and appreciate.

I have both and ROC is my preferred watch. To my eye it looks much better and finish is on a higher level. Both are comfortable on my 7.25 inch wrist. I generally wear ROC more for special occasions. Daytona is probably better choice for daily wear though. Good luck!

Thanks. This is to the heart of the subject, since I’m not hunting for a daily, but instead an interesting piece that makes me smile when pulled from my safe time to time.

If we're talking chronos, Daytona by a country mile. If you can get it at retail it's a no brainer I think. In my opinion the Royal Oak works best uncomplicated, the 15202 + daytona would make a hard to beat pairing.

I think for most it's a natural progression from Rolex to AP and Patek. I have all 3 brands and my Pateks get the most wrist time unless I am doing something active than it's a Rolex .

At list, the Daytona. The RO wears big, so if you do decide on it, you might consider the 39mm version ref. 26300.

I agree that the RO looks much better as a two-hander. If you like the size of the ROC, look at a 15400. Oh yea, buy the Daytona. You CAN NOT go wrong with that, even if you don't like it.
