YG Submariner as a Daily
Hello everyone. So I am thinking about picking up the yg and blue sub today. My hesitation lies in wondering how it will look at the community pool or beach in a bathing suit and t shirt or no shirt. Will it be too much flash or will it hopefully look like a knock off and not be in someone’s face. ? I would appreciate your opinions and any pictures of it in the wild with super casual attire. I had been looking for a while sub but we lost 3 AD in my area and supply is non-existent Thank you in advance.

YG Submariner as a Daily
Can’t really see YG as more durable than 904L steel what gets scratches eventually too ... YG gets flashy at midnight too ... white gold would be less showy but for daily wearer I’d go for steel ... blue dial is on YM where rhodium one is my favorite ...

It’s a beautiful piece. But, IMHO, it doesn’t fly under the radar. White gold is a bit more stealthy. Let us know what you decide to do!

I love the yg sub. I own the black dial. But for Everyday it can be a little much. And it definitely scratches up way faster than SS. That’s why I got both versions and mix it up

I wore mine pretty much as a daily when my other watches were a gold AP and PP so this was the "beater", but I'd get a SS of some kind or brand as there are times you just want to be under the radar.

Many people wear gold watches and have for many decades for their daily watch.

Thank you for the responses. I don’t think I am as concerned about scratching as much as would it look ridiculous in such a casual environment as pool or beach? I realize it’s a sub and it lives for the water. But it is a gold sub and might be the tyrannosaurus of the subs in the real world.

I have owned various YG Submariners over the years and have worn them at times as daily watches. I have even worn them to the pool and in other very casual settings with no issues. I have not done that in years though, as I believe in the right tool for the right job. I have a lot of various divers and wear everything from my SD43, Hulk, Seiko's and Tudors. They just work better for me and I do try to keep my PM watches as pristine as possible. Just because you can does not mean you should. I don't wear mine to the pool and it does not cross my mind anymore to do it.

Buy it, insure it and wear it
It’s a beautiful watch and if you are fortunate enough to be able to buy one then my vote is go for it! |

I think anything can be worn as a daily. Certainly a submariner.

Based on your question and concerns, you may want to hold off on a YG Sub as your daily. I think you would be too uncomfortable in casual situations. If you have not worn much YG, you may need time to acclimatize yourself.
It took me a couple years to realize most people don’t care (or even notice) what I wore on my wrist. I had get over being self-conscious about wearing a gold Rolex and just enjoy it. Besides, I’m pretty low-key about my watches and only a handful of my friends even know that I own one. If someone judges you for wearing a YG Sub to the pool, does it really matter? When you can honestly answer NO, you are ready. |

It’s a beautiful piece! Definitely can be worn as a daily, as long as you’re comfortable with it. You will notice scratches more on the YG, at least that’s my experience. That’s why I keep a SS on hand for different situations where a YG wouldn’t be my first choice. I tend to wear YG 4-5 times a week, but my choice for that is is an oysterflex Daytona or DD...shows a lot less wear. Your own comfort level will dictate wearing it at the pool...dressed appropriately wouldn’t bother me (nice shorts, polo, etc...is my definition of that) but myself wouldn’t wear with swim trunks and shirtless. I’d be wearing SS in that scenario.

If you want a YG Sub get the black dial model. The blue and yellow is far too flashy to wear anywhere IMHO. I worn mine on secluded walks in the morning in a gated community and that was it. Even people who are not into watches will notice that blue/YG Sub

It's my only sub now. I just couldn't imagine needing or wanting another one.
As far as wearing daily, though, that's more of an issue of how comfortable you are with it. I would go with one of the oyster flex models if you really are going to be self conscious about how it looks. Or, take a look at a Pelagos or BB, lot of bang for the buck there. |

YG Submariner as a Daily
I have the YG blue and wear it daily. I don’t really care what others think and wear it because I enjoy it. I’m in my early 30s, wear it to my corporate office daily and have had only 1 person ask me about it...most don’t notice or care.
Should you not drive a nice car because that’s showy? Or wear nice clothes? Or go on nice vacations? It’s your life, your money, ENJOY! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They notice blue, but won't notice black? Both are YG right? I wear the blue every day. Nobody once has commented on my watch. Nobody has attempted to mug or rob me. Enough said.

I agree that it is just a watch and most wont notice that it is a Rolex. In fact most will think Invicta or Michael Korrs. I work hard for my money and enjoying it isn’t the issue. I just don’t like to throw what I have in the face of those that don’t have. And it is definitely designed for the pool or beach or water. I had the black once and it really didn’t sing. Everyone says go blue!!

I have the same view as you. So I went with a wg model. If you go with a yg Rolex, you have to be confident about wearing yg and not be bothered that some might take offense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The question is will you wear the watch or will the watch wear you? I've seen both examples many times over the years. There are the guys who hold their wrist up even while in the pool and flick their YG around all the time to get people to notice. They get so much in the habit that they don't even realize they are doing it most of the time. They want to be a big shot with their big watch. Then you have the guys that just wear the watch as a watch. Be it with a business suit or a swim suit. It looks completely normal in that case.

I don’t own this watch but it is a grail of mine.
For you to hope others will think it is a knockoff so you’ll feel more comfortable wearing it, seems off to me. Are you sure you are ready for this solid gold heavy hitter? |
