Do you (or would you) wear your Daytona as your daily watch?

I got mine as a present from my wife, and I love the watch. It's the 116520 in stainless steel, 2006. However, because it's such a coveted and special watch I cringe a little when I notice new slight scratches on the watch and I keep wondering if I should keep wearing it as an everyday watch. I already scratched the crystal a bit with the kitchen marble :( It's also the only Rolex I own.

A few thoughts I have that I wonder if you guys have as well:
- it's a special watch and I should wear it every day
- the little scratches will make it unique to me and shouldn't matter
- the scratches are devaluing the watch, but that doesn't matter because I don't plan to ever sell it
- what other risks am I exposed to by wearing the watch every day?

I wear my 500 most days. I even sold some other watches including a GMT to force myself to wear the Daytona. It has some sweet scratches on the bracelet and a nice ding on the 4 o’clock lug. Cringed for a long while about both, sometimes still do.

But life is short. If I’m lucky I’ll get something equally as special in a few decades or maybe less.

Wear it.

My white 500C is part of the daily rotation of what I wear. I tend to end up wearing it most on weekends but will often mix it in during the week because I just love wearing it so much.

I am in an office all day and pretty careful I don't do anything stupid with it. I love wearing it and am careful with it but certainly don't baby it. If I waited this long for a watch you better believe I will wear it whenever I want!

I think that if you’re lucky enough to own such a great watch, you should wear it as much as you can! The watch looks fantastic, but it always looks better on your wrist rather than tucked away somewhere out of harms way.

Right! That’s why I want to keep it as new as possible, it’s only a month old :)

And that scratch on the Crystal is killing me! :(

I’d say wear the heck out of it everyday! Your wife will like that you wear it everyday since she gave it to and I personally believe what’s the point of owning nice things if you don’t use them. Keep in mind barring a catastrophe you can always get it serviced and fix any small imperfections. It’s a beautiful watch. I’d be proud as heck to wear that thing especially knowing my wife gave it to me. The sentimental value combined with its timeless design make it an everyday piece if it were mine.

What’s the use of having a beautiful watch from a dear person if it is to stay in a box or a safe?
Wear it, enjoy it, live those great moments with it, show your wife how great her present is, she’ll be more happy than you.
It’ll get some minor scratches? So what. You are not planning to sell it.
Life is too short.

Wear mine pretty much all weekdays to work with a suit.
Seeing as this is your only Rolex and a present from your wife, you should wear it as often as possible.
As others have said, there isn’t much that won’t be looking brand new come service time..

Beautiful watch.

Don't worry about the little scratches. The PCL's are magnets for them and you will get them no matter what you do. Watches are meant to be worn, and the scratches are not devaluing your watch at all. If you ever needed to sell down the road, RSC could do a quick touch up and it would look like new but since its a gift and you don't plan on selling it thats a moot point. Plenty of guys on here wear Daytona everyday.

Enjoy the wonderful gift from your wife

The only reason I don’t wear it daily is because I rotate within my collection.

The pre-ceramic bezels look best. That's a nice watch, I'd wear it everyday.

Yeah... that’s my hypothesis. Maybe it was with metal? I’ve only felt a ding on it when working in the kitchen (taking something out of a drawer and lifting my arm too soon), and reaching under a piece of furniture that has a metal/iron base and tapping the top on it.

I love mine, and it gets worn often......but I don’t think I could ever wear it daily.

I've worn mine daily for 2 1/2 years. Do I celebrate the hairline scratches and inevitable imperfections? No. Do I think back to when I was taking off a backpack in Switzerland and marred the clasp and smile? No. Do I understand that if you use something if will stop looking new? Yes. Do I think this watch is too expensive to only wear gingerly on special occasions? Absolutely. Do I have any more questions? No.

Metal won’t work either - there is not much that will scratch the crystal. If you can’t be sure, most likely it was your wife’s diamond ring somehow.

Yes, I wear mine everyday. No point in owning such a beautiful watch and not wearing it. Congrats on the Daytona, wear in good health.

It looks great with the new bezel. These are pretty cheap from RSC, I think around $300. Cannot understand why more owners don’t get them fitted.

Hey Alex,

Absolutely wear it every day if it's your one and only! It's a steel sport watch, 100m wr, so it can definitely take it. Besides, wearing it every day will allow you to bond with thew watch and creat a life of memories with it.
