exp1 vs black milgauss - all around watch
Im considering an explorer 1, current model vs a milgauss with the black face (no green crystal) as a first rolex. Not that concerned about resale, but would buy preowned. I like both, leaning towards explorer, but i like 40mm rather than 39mm. Nevertheless, milgauss is sort of unique and i like it also. Its a little more striking with the orange.
This would be an allaround watch. Wear sometimes with a shirt and tie, or wear sometimes with more casual work attire. I have a diver already (seamaster), and a pilots watch (IWC), but think this rolex would be more versatile for dress and casual on a day to day basis. I know this is subjective, but any thoughts. |

Explorer would be my choice. The Milgauss is top heavy and take awhile to get use to.

Exp is by far a better all-rounder, more comfortable , and more versatile IMO

Explorer is iconic and classic. I think it’s the greatest GADA you can buy.

Both are nice, if dress wear is a factor Exp as it is thinner.

Milgauss. It’s got a little more personality and I rarely see it in the wild.

Do you like 40mm in how it wears or because of the legibility of the dial? Because the Exp1 wears like a 39 but the dial gives the illusion of size and spaciousness. The Milgauss is a bit beefy. I think you're going to prefer the Exp1 on the wrist but your eyes prefer the Milgauss.
I think you need to try on both and decide then. If I were you, I would speak with a Trusted Seller here who could offer you that opportunity to try on both. Depending on your location, that might be relatively easy to organize. |

I own both an Explorer and a Milgauss. As a one watch all-arounder I'd take the Explorer every time.

I wanna buy a Milgauss as my first Rolex but then a reseller told me that an Explorer was in stock... A Milgauss could be my next one. A tough choice!

Had the same dilemma. Chose the white Milgauss.

You can not go wrong with either...unlike Milgauss, Explorer can be worn to the woods and is a strap monster...my Millie fits just fine under a shirt, not bulky at all...very dressy and sporty at the same time...looks fabulous on nato/rubber strap as well (blue, black or orange)

Of those two, I think Milgauss, but best all around watch is the black Submariner.

For your only Rolex, I'd go Explorer. If you're going to have multiple, I think the Milguass is a cool piece that adds some variety.

My opinion is bias because my first Rolex was a Milgauss and i love it. It is rare in the wild and it fits very well. However, the Explorer is also a very nice piece.

how bulky is migauss compared to a sub ? I know exp 1 is thinner. Does exp1 wear small? I like 40mm
AD told me to consider a stick dial black DJ 41 as the best option, as it can be a sports or a dress watch. Not sure. |

I think the Milgauss is more rare if that's an issue and more of an acquired taste but the Explorer 1 is probably the most versatile and perfect all around watch.

Milgauss: 13.5mm thick, 157 grams SubC Date: 12.5mm thick, 159 grams Odd that the watch with a soft iron shield around the movement weighs less than the one without. I've not tried on the Milgauss, but I think the Sub's weight is better distributed throughout the case, whereas people have commented the Milgauss feels a little top-heavy. |
