116622 Rolex Yacht Master thoughts...

I entered my local AD to add my name to the popular lists. The same SS models that your name may or may not be on.

The consultant was an absolute pleasure. We discussed everything from kids in college to our favorite Rolex trends. Charming. She directed me to the Yacht master shown here. I’d never considered it but in looking at the pictures, darn, it looks pretty good on my 6.75” wrist. I’m a little tired of polished links, and wonder how the watch as a whole will dress down if I decide to take it horseback riding on the weekends. And how will I feel if a new gmt shows up 9 months from now and I’ve blown my cash on this lovely (but unloved watch). I do have a black modern GMT and an old Pepsi. My current dream watch is a Kermit, but I hate the idea of the premiums. Plus, this watch feels more solid.

I have the blue dial, love it I didn’t realize how solid it felt until I got an explorer and then submariner

Yeah. For some reason they are very under rated. I'm guessing it's because the rotating bezel doesn't have a real purpose, afterall of you wanted to time something you'd get a chrono? It is my only TT.

Iove the Rhodium YM.
May even consider selling my (hyped) BLNR and getting one in the future.

Absolutely love the Rhodium dial.

Had a look at the rose gold on Oyster flex yesterday, so for me it’s now between the Rhodium and Gold. Any thoughts from owners that have had both would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am completely in love with THIS watch right now. Tried it on at my AD a couple weeks ago and cannot stop thinking about it!

I think you made an excellent choice. My YM was my first Rolex and is such a stunner, it's so comfortable and easy to wear in any situation. I think you're going to love it and find it is a constant in the rotation. Congratulations; enjoy it and wear it in the best of health.

I like the YM you tried on and think that you should buy it. Why wait on a list that maybe years before it is filled, when you can have this beauty today. If they call you in a few months or a year for another watch, go in, try it on and figure out if you want it and how to make it work. I prefer one in the hand than a promise of down the road.

I initially had the platinum dial with the old clasp but traded it in for the newer blue dial and wow, have I been happy. It is a beautiful reference you can dress up or down.

I came very close to buying the same reference at my AD last month. I love the blue hand and script on the rhodium dial. It's also the perfect size for my wrist. I decided to wait and save for my first PM watch though.

I have been thinking of the exact model as well. My only concern is that the platinum bezel is extremely scratchable from what I have read. This is holding me from pulling the trigger.

This is false in my experience. The pcl bracelet=extremely scratchable, but the platinum bezel is quite resilient. Here is a photo of my 2006 16622. I bought it new and it’s never been polished.

It's not scratches that I've noticed, but more so the matte finish gets burnished and starts to become dark in areas between the numbers.

It’s a 40. Its a great fit on my 6.75” wrist. Fits more like the five digit models, which I really like.

I have a 6.25" wrist. I have the 37mm YM. The sizes fit more with my 34mm Air-King and my 36mm Turn-o-Graph. That 40mm YM looks great. Go for it.

I’ve had my blue YM for several years . The bezel is easily scratched unless you baby it . No doubt about it .

What gives me pause is your question about the new GMT showing up and you’ve blown your cash. If there is a set budget I would not deviate from your ultimate goal.

I have the rhodium dial YM and it’s fantastic. I use it as my go to work (suit-wearer here) and dress casual piece whenever my other models aren’t screaming to much for wrist time. It’s a great underrated piece. Get it before it shows up on speculator radars.

Agree, I was careful-ish with mine but didn't have a mark on it in a year, just like any SS to me really.

I love my 16622. I sometimes wear it more than my Sub LV and BLNR. Very underrated. I really want the 16621 with the chocolate dial. It looks AMAZING in person.

Here is my 16622:

116622 Rolex Yacht Master thoughts...

Appreciate all the feedback! I am really taken with this reference. Admittedly, the new model hype clouds my judgement, to some extent, in terms of what my wish list looks like. The Kermit has been at the top of my list for a while, but I can’t see paying the premium for something so similar to my 16610ln. Especially when I can be pretty hard on watches. The new GMT, now that’s another story. I like it and don’t mind waiting a few years. Every time I feel I’ve ruled this one (the YM) out, I look at the picture and am smitten. I just love the proportions and even the splash of color. So then the question becomes how much wrist time will it get relative to what’s already sitting in my watch box? First world problem for sure but a fun and much needed diversion!

This is the most beautiful of the current yachtmasters, IMO. The subtle tone-on-tone beauty can only be appreciated in real life. Photos don’t capture the magical glow of the platinum or the quiet beauty of the rhodium dial and the blue accents.

I got my 116622 in March of 2018. Love it. I had plans on getting the TT chocolate dial but stepped up to the 116655 this February.

Get both I say.

That’s a load of bull. It is no more prone than any other metal bezel. Watch awareness is your friend. Mine is 1.5 almost years old. I have more marks on the clasp and zero on the bezel. Looks good to me.

I've always loved the SS YM. Right now, it's the only watch I can see me letting my 114060 go for. It's be the blue dial version thou.

Pull the trigger! I cannot fathom as to why these are so underrated, perhaps it’s the bi-directional bezel as well as the price? Imo, I believe Rolex absolutely nailed the colourways and general aesthetic of the watch making them a little more playful than the usual somber SM/SD etc
