Daytona or RO

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice.. Just like the rest of the world I would love to purchase a Daytona C, and just like everyone else can't get one.. i did consider buying grey for around £16k end of last year but decided against pay that much over the odds.

The dilemma is, would you totally forget about the Daytona and maybe switch to the AP Royal Oak which is also a lovely watch at £16k.. not sure if that too has the same waiting times as a Daytona.. or stay with the Daytona but get the PM oysterflex model for around £22k which I have seen in a couple of ADs in the last 6 months?

Thanks in advance

Apples vs Oranges.

One is a three hand automatic. Other is a chronograph.

Is the Daytona more robust? Probably. Better WR. More shock absorptive properties in the movement?

The base movement in the AP, the 3120, was no slouch here either.

Hard to go wrong with either. AP might be a little easier to come by, and at least the Gray prices aren’t as bad in terms of the markup.

Do you want a Daytona or just a “lovely watch”?

I went with the APROC panda, I would like the 116500 white dial in my collection but refuse to pay the premium.

Find the Daytona-C at the best price available and have it complete with box and papers and buy it. So what, you paid more than retail and might never get your money back out. OK, you own a Daytona-C and can wear it for the rest of your life. And because you have so much in it you will not be tempted to flip without getting crushed. In the span of a few years the extra cost will fade and the pleasure of ownership will more than justify the cost. Go get your watch, pay and enjoy. Life is short.

I'd go Royal Oak in all honesty.

Buy whichever you like more!
Cost difference, premiums, etc. will all make little difference down the road.
But if you like both equally, then for about the same budget, I would go RO. Also keep in mind that RO 15500/15400 wears much larger than Daytona-C.

Don’t settle if already have your mind set on a particular watch. Both are very nice pieces but having owned both I enjoy wearing my Daytona more while I enjoy looking at my AP more.

Individuals have to get over the word premium imo. It really isn’t a premium... are you paying more than a fictitious MSRP... yes. Would most of us get it at MSRP... no. So you are left with paying the market price. Let’s be realistic with what the watch is going for right now. Most of us won’t be able to win the AD lottery to get piece so if you truly want it, go for it! Almost all individuals who did don’t regret it. They just regret they didn’t do it sooner.

I would rather get the ROC at retail than Daytona at grey prices.

All about personal preference. I personally don't like or get the AP design, with all those little screws on the bezel.

The Daytona is just a nicer-looking watch, black or white. Still, there are plenty of guys who would disagree, and that's fine too.

I'd go AP Royal Oak if it were just between the two steel models. Beyond that, it's a question of whether you want to pay up for PM or stick to steel.

I have a RO 15500. Different beast than any of my Rolex. To me the RO is not a daily since it doesn’t seem as robust as a Rolex and more scratch prone. At retail pricing Id pick the Daytona over the RO but at grey pricing I’d pick the RO over the Daytona.

I'd forget them both on the gray market. RO Market is totally over inflated, and the value retention is a huge risk. DaytonaC SS is in the same boat.

At these prices, think long and hard about alternatives ... for example, even if you want a White SS Daytona C (~25K on bobs) ... you can get the Gold Daytona on oyster flex for an extra few Gs.

hell you can even get an A. Lange I for this money. I get these are totally different watches but given the craftsmanship superiority ---- it's a better move.

Love Lange but value retention is huge risk with Lange also.

The Royal Oak spent the least amount of time my collection of any watch I’ve ever owned. Couldn’t take the scratch potential.
