Pam 01438 vs 438 (Tuttonero)
Can anyone explain the exact difference between the 01438 and 438? From what I can tell:
Each is identical on the front excluding variations of lettering. The 01438 has a solid case back and the 0438 is transparent. I know the 438 is ceramic coated but not sure if the 01438 is solid ceramic or just ceramic coated. Thanks |

Both are entirely ceramic, not coated. Both have same movement and aesthetics. It would appear that the only difference is the case back. I had the tuttonero and, while its a great watch, I didn’t quite get used to the black watch thing and sold it.

I think 1438 have slightly thinner movt and case?
I think 438 have either black movt or blackened display back But for sure both have ceramic case and bracelet I’m quite surprised that 1438 didn’t get the blue hand treatment like 1441? |

Thanks for the replies. In this article, it’s stated the 438 is coated. In any case, I’m considering trading my 508 for a 1438. I love the bracelet on the 1438 and the 47mm is a bit large for me.

Ceramic case with a coated black titanium case back.
The 1438 has the new 9010 Panerai in-house movement which is thinner it also has a more secure balance bridge and 3 more jewels. I didn’t think I would be able to tell the thickness difference but it is noticeable on the 1950 case on the wrist. IMO the advantages of the newer movement is worth the price increase. The new P.9010 movement is an updated version of the calibre P.9000 (which remains in the collection, at least for now) and the main difference is a reduced thickness (down from 7.9mm to 6.0mm), 3 more jewels (now 31), and 3 more components, now totaling at 200 individual components. It now features a balance bridge rather than a balance cock, as on the P.9000 calibre. The balance bridge is a significant upgrade. https://www.panerai.com/us/en/collec...mt---44mm.html |

Thanks for the info. I’ve been looking at the 1441 myself.

I have a 441, but I purchased the Ceramic bracelet. So I guess I have a poor man's 438 now....
