If I buy this, will you give me that? Dubai AD related.

Hey all.

First off - I'm only after your success stories.

I'm well aware it varies from town/country and city.

I'm off to Dubai in a few weeks and as it happens my wife is actually interested in a TT DJ. Classic Jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, yellow gold.

Wondering if any of you have ever had any success stories abroad with the - I'll buy this is you let me have that SS model?

I'm not expecting a Ceramic Daytona - but reckon if I buy the above model a Hulk or SS SkyD may appear?

That TT would not help in most big cities, don't know about Dubai.

I proposed almost the exact same thing yesterday at Dubai Mall. They couldn't be less interested. Wife wants a DJ31 TT and I was looking for a simple black sub. They told me 6 months for the sub despite me proposing the two watch deal.

Even the mention of the word Submariner their body language changed. And that was after a few minutes of talking about the DJ and the different options.

I'll try my luck in the UK when I head back. It doesn't hurt asking but my advice would be try some smaller branches if you can.

There are loads of other smaller dealers, I just happened to be passing the new flagship store.

If you're in the vicinity of Deira or Wafi Mall (or even some of the hotel branches) i'd definitely give it a try. Dubai Mall probably get inundated with tourists all day every day asking for the same stuff. Their shelves were pretty bare. Airport is worth it too. You can get 5% VAT now in you do buy locally which always softens the blow.

Good luck and enjoy your visit!

There actually is an Explorer 1 for sale at DXB as of this morning... ;-)

On the dealers though, there’s only one AD in Dubai albeit with multiple stores (and that include the Rolex boutiques in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Duty Free at the airport - all Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons).

I started off with an Explorer 2 from my AD. It's just rolled on ever since. My AD has never let me down. I'm not a VIP, either.

The AD's couldnt care less - Been scouring them for the last year for various models.

In Dubai "the biggest rolex AD in the world" didnt have any sport models on display - lol.
I have built a relationship in Abu Dhabi and its much better... but wont be easy - but let us know your success!

I proposed getting a DJ 31 for my wife if they can produce a blnr, this was in Hawaii. They said they could in an hour BUT they would not discount the DJ & tax it all.

Now now before everyone goes nuts, let’s put this in perspective. This was July 2018 the blnr was not discontinued and selling anywhere from msrp to +\- 1k. Knowing that I could score a 20% discount and no tax on dj 31 I had to walk.

Fun 20 min - wish they would have been realistic on DJ!

They have enough big rollers strolling in and buying their wife anything she wants with no strings attached. I’m not surprised they don’t entertain deals.

It wasn’t a deal as such, but a suggestion that I’d take 2 pieces off their hands. In any event, I can get a black sub without much effort but I thought it would be interesting to gauge their reaction anyways.

I would think that a basic black sub wouldn’t be on the lists of many middle eastern high rollers. I see more AP ROs than any other luxury piece here.

Yeah I know what you mean, but black subs are probably more sought after than You’d think.

Rolex is crazy these days, and people are highlighting when even an Explorer or Milgauss pops up for sale. It’s crazy

When I was trying to find my black sub, I had some dealers tell me they might consider putting me at the top of the wait list if I’ll buy my wife a datejust.

I found a dealer that didn’t ask to buy anything put me on a waitlist, and when she did get me the watch in less than 8 weeks, THEN I bought my wife the datejust.

In my opinion you’ll have better luck in Abu Dhabi. Try Khoory and Sons Rolex in the Abu Dhabi Mall. It’s a small no frills shop that seems to have more selection because it doesn’t get much foot traffic. If you’re sightseeing in Dubai anyway you should take a day trip to Abu Dhabi (90 minute ride - $95 taxi) and check out the Grand Mosque and Emirates Palace Hotel. You can get the 24kt gold cappuccino at the Emirates Palace and they even have their own Rolex shop inside to try your luck.

They wont be interested in a small bundle like that. And as far as a hulk or ss skydweller goes, not a chance.

All Dubai ADs are part of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons. There is no small AD in Dubai...

True, but each branch reacts differently and obtains different stock. Go to a less popular one and the list times can be greatly reduced.

There are out of towners buying watches worth $100+K and they’re the ones who get the “hot” models. I highly doubt a TT DJ will land you a hulk if you’re dealing with one of those ADs that do tid for tad!

In touch with most of the ADs by WhatsApp in dubai and Abu Dhabi, just no chance getting any stainless steel pieces even if past customer. Way too many VVIPs here who have spent over £200k per year on their family’s, gifts etc. It’s the same with AP and patek in this region. However saying that it is true you may have more luck in Abu Dhabi however last month they had a seadweller 43 in store and let me try it on but refused to let me buy as they said they want to ask their previous clients first which really pissed me off!
Goodluxk
