Would you buy a watch that is from Venezuela?
My mum saw a blue dial DJ116264 "triple red or thunderbird" on jubilee. It was bought new from Venezuela in 2011. The question is, would you buy one if it's from South America countries? I personally wouldn't and I like my watches from UK , USA or Hong Kong.
If she bought it, would it affect resale value say in 10-20 years time? Thanks |

Yes, I would be quite happy, assuming it was real. What’s wrong with South America on the papers? Would be entertaining to have Hugo Chavez’s name on the warranty card!

Why not? They're all made in the same place...

I have done (not Rolex) as there’s a boom of watches on eBay coming from these countries it seems. Only trouble is an empty packet turned up! I honestly don’t think it was the seller though as it was stolen by DHL (cut open and taped up with their own DHL tape). Sadly the seller sent it with no insurance so he could ship it cheaply.

Thanks for reply. The DJ is real and its sold by reputable grey. She's worried when she comes to sell it later and buyer sees it's from South America and they will be put off by it or try knock her price down even more as it's not from desired countries.
Could someone find out how much the retail price was before it got discontinued please. Thanks |

While I prefer a US dealer, I would take it from any country. A good deal is a good deal.

If the watch is real and from a good dealer that will stand behind it I would not hesitate.

I wouldn’t have a problem. Same watch as anywhere just happened to get shipped to Venezuela.

They all come from the same factory, totally irrelevant which AD sold it

Country of sale makes no difference to value. When trying to sell a Rolex, some weird potential buyers try their luck saying ‘Oh, it’s not a UK watch...’ but they are just chancers. You’ll have no trouble getting the market price when it comes time to sell.

There was a lot of money in Venezuela until a few years ago. Serious money with very rich people who were associated with the oils trade. It’s therefore not unusual for watches to be sold in that market, despite the recent economic woes of the nation.

I would happily buy a watch from Venezuela.
The origin of manufacture is the same. The original AD makes little or no difference at all. If it’s a watch you want buy it. Only thing to do is make sure it is genuine but that goes for buying anywhere

I’ll just pretend I don’t know that it was probably used to buy jerky made from zoo animals or confiscated by a ranking member of dear leader’s totally benevolent security forces because wealth is the property of everyone, and by everyone I mean the government.

I’d think twice. Rolex’s purchased in countries starting with J typically command 5.8% premium at resale. Countries starting with X are the worst. Never in the history of the has anyone been able to sell a Rolex secondhand purchased from a country starting with X.

I prefer USA or Europe provenance, but if the watch is real and the price is right, I'm ok from anywhere in the world. Like many have stated, they all come from the same factory in Switzerland.

I would and did-although via a trusted seller here on TRF(JustRolexes-excellent).
Interestingly, the paper(below) for this watch, a Z serial 16710, only notes the country code, the metal composition, but no bracelet or bezel designation and also seems to be an "open paper"-no owner listed(this photo included my driver's license for insurance purposes).

I actually prefer to get watches with my country code and I live in Southeast Asia. No premium in my book for US, UK, HK or any other country.

Why not? It's one Rolex just like another and I don't like those prejudices. In Venezuela there are good and honest people, just as in the United Kingdom there are good and honest people and others not so good. |
