Advice needed: possibile trade

Hi Guys,

Need some advice, I own a GMT 16700 pepsi with original jubilee 1997 with original box and papers. Last serviced in June 2019 and has two years warranty remaining almost.

I have been offered to trade directly against a Sub Hulk 2010 no papers. Should I go for it?

I have a quick nosey on chrono 24, the hulks seem to be going for a little bit stronger money than the Pepsi, so its not a horrible deal cash wise for you, you can always buy a box and get paperwork, maybe factor in a service cost.

I think the GMT is going to keep going up. I'd be tempted to keep a really nice one.

Depends what you like, do you really want a hulk?

I would not make this trade. The Hulk does nothing for me and I think 5 digit series are the best.

The thing is either watch wouldn't be worn much, more of a rotation piece however just seeing since a lot of focus is on the hulk these days etc, so was thinking it may be a good deal.

Although I prefer the newer models, I'd have to say no to this trade. With no papers the values are way off

I have both hulk and 5 digit gmt.

I would keep the gmt over the hulk if I had to choose.

You never mentioned the “who” lingering in the wings...

Who is offering the Hulk? That watch without papers carries some risk of not being legit, not being theft-free, and not truly owned by the “who”.

Buy the seller first (or in this case, the trader).

Good question, The "who" is a independent watch and jewellery dealer with a actual store in a busy street. Of course no guarantees to know if its stolen etc, however that's the risk of trades such as this. I actually thought it may be a good deal however from the responses, seems like prices of the 16700 are matching that of hulk or will do.

I much prefer the Pepsi over the hulk so I wouldn’t do the trade...the hulk just doesn’t do it for me though I know it’s really popular with TRF.

If I had a full set GMT as a rotation/investment piece, would I swap it for a Hulk no B/P, probably not. A Hulk is a nice watch though, but unless you really want one, nope.

Sounds like you are a bit bored and it sounds a fun change.

Unless you REALLY want a new model rolex, no.

Thanks for the responses guys, in regards to future investment values (I undertsand watches are not investments) however for market values over the years, which is better to hold on to? I'm leaning towards the 5 digit rolex's will increase further than the more recent. hmm

That’s a hard NO. Think you are upside down on value and vintage for current production modern never ends well long term.

no way especially if the pepsi is all original. considering you have full set, its not as common and will be worth more in 5-10 years... if not already (depending on condition vs the other one).

No way. The GMT is worth more. You can find (with a little effort) a new hulk at an ad.
