Buy Datejust 41 is Spain
Hello all!
I am going to be at Spain, Malaga. And i want to buy the following watch: https://www.rolex.com/watches/dateju...6334-0002.html DJ41 Blue Dial -> m126334-0002. The price is 8,750€ (VAT INCL.). I read the topic which contains the Rolex price table including the Tax in Spain is 21%. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=631175 So 8750-21%=* 6,912.5€. This is the price which i will pay for the watch after tax refund in the airport? Thanks! |

Is this something you've already arranged or you're hoping to find this exact watch in stock?
My math says 7231.5 + 21% = 8750 |

You'll be lucky to find this watch in a shop window now.

I’ve been trying to source a DJ 41 for 4 months from a Rolex AD and only yesterday did I get the call, although mine was Rhodium and they told me that’s now harder to source than Blue.
I literally rang every AD in London one afternoon and only one would even deal with me. One. Basically stainless steel DJ41s are getting almost as tough to source as the SS professionals. If you haven’t arranged it then I imagine you have no chance I’m afraid |

It is relatively hard to find DJ41, especially blue dial Jubilee, so I wouldn't expect to find one sitting at an AD or especially the airport AD. |

The price incl. VAT is (121%) so the price excl. VAT will be: 100/121 x 8750 = 7231 euro.

The market these days is crazy.
I was actually shocked to see a DJ41 Wimbledon in the window of my AD yesterday. |

It will be a bit less than 21% refund as the company that manage the service get a piece of the cake, here is the calculator: https://www.globalblue.com/tax-free-...nd-calculator/

VAT or sales tax Scam in Europe or worldwide is insane. The government recycles every item we buy, re-taxing the same thing over and over again. Items sold a few times in Europe, accrue 50-75% of their value for gov coffers, depending on how many times they change hands.
Same watch @ 21% tax Buyer one (new) 10k watch 2100 tax Buyer two (used) 8k watch 1680 tax Buyer three (used) 7k watch 1470 tax *this example assumes depreciation but, it could be appreciation for certain rolex... So if the example 10k watch is sold only 3 times in Europe, once new and two resales, total tax received is 5250 tax on a 10k watch. Now use the same theory on say a 30 or 40 year old Rolex. How many times was it resold? My 5513 from 1968 was 238 euros new. Lets say its resold today for 10k, the government steps in and takes 2100 tax on an item sold for 238 euros 50 years ago? Its just a perpetual scam this whole VAT thing. Sorry if I went off topic guys, it just infuriates me... This is why governments love consumerism

Are Datejusts experiencing the same kind of market as SS sport watches? I guess I haven't kept up on that front and didn't realize this. Amazing.

DJ is a great and underrated watch. On the background of SS sport models scarcity a SS DJ becomes more and more desirable and hard to find.

Yeah, I just contacted Watches of Switzerland to ask if they can get me a white dialled DJ41 and they said no. The world has truly gone mad.

For professional dealers, VAT is to be levied on the vendor's profit margin. Most second-hand goods have already borne VAT when they were originally sold as new or were sold at a previous stage. Thus, in order to end all forms of double taxation, the Seventh VAT Directive provides that throughout the Community sales of second-hand goods will be taxed, in the country of the vendor, on the basis of the vendor's profit margin (the difference between the price at which he bought the good and the price at which he resells it), and not on the basis of the full value." So in your example of a watch being sold 3 times total tax paid would be let's say it was originally 10k, then sold to a used watch seller for 7k and resold for 8k, finally sold to anothe used watch seller for 6.5k and resold for 7k. The tax would be 10k-10k/1.21=1736, second time 1k-1k/1.21=174 and finally last time 500-500/1.21=88 (all three rounded up) for a total of 1998. Much less than you assumed would be paid. Maybe in US, the sales tax is paid on full sales price (I don't know about US tax laws), but not in EU, at least it seems like that's not the case. |

If you can’t find the watch in Malaga, drop by Marbella as they have plenty of Rolex available.

I already pointed it out with a concrete example to him. (Which you could look for to make sure it's correct.) What he describes is what I believe the American system is like, which is why he thinks like that.
