Rolex Deepsea 3235 movement black dial

Quick question - I got a call for a 12660 deep sea black dial (non JC) here in Atlanta. Is this a desirable SS model? I was under impression people only wanted the JC Model.

I don’t have the JC, would you advise I pick this up?

Thanks

Probably the most bang for buck models out now.

Would not buy from an AD though. Second hand used will run no more than 9k USD in decent shape with B&P

Get the one that you like looking down on your wrist at

I like them both, only have history buying one other watch from AD so figured picking this up only helps more with future pieces.

I just wanted to know why people view it as less desirable, I think it’s beautiful.

It’s the typical Rolex thing. It’s desirable because they are deemed rare and therefore they are getting bought up and flipped. I think the black is better looking.

They are a lot more common to see in the AD’s window. I think a lot of people/collectors look them over because of their size. Unless you are a very big man it would be an uncomfortable daily wearer. The James Cameron is the one to get, it’s special and it’s a perfect weekend warrior. Plus it will one day be highly collectible IMO.

I have a black dial and I love it. Heavy yes, but definitely wearable on the daily. I prefer it to the JC because it has a classic Rolex look and appeal to it and it also resembles the Deepsea challenge Rolex Deepsea more than the JC haha.

I don’t own a sub so this is perfect for me actually. I called this AD closing doors a few months ago in Atlanta so happy I was able to get a second watch in 4 months.

It’s a Mayors that is closing and reopening in December near a new Whole Foods type of area.

It's a hell of a watch.

Personally, I think it's preferable to the D-Blue.

They both benefit from one of the best clasps in the business.

The domed crystal gives a really nice effect on both, but the black dial doesn't have the green lettering that some of us don't love, and there is something about the gradient dial that, although beautiful, seems.....I don't know...asymmetrical I guess -which just doesn't do it for me as much.

I have a black one and it's become my daily. I totally acknowledge that the D-Blue is more popular, but it comes down to personal preference and for me the classic Rolex diver look is my preference.

Same feelings. They did say they can get a black dial Daytona possibly by December which would be amazing for me to obtain a GMT, DeepSEA & Daytona in 1 year. Makes me feel like sometimes the SS scarcity is all forum hype!

Buy it if you like it otherwise pass I don’t think they’re selling for a enough of a markup to make it worth your time

I only implied that because my history with AD had been 1 purchase in past month only. I was shocked they had another piece to present me, let alone a professional model. The watch I bought prior I had to leave a deposit and it took +- 2 months (two-tone).

Hahaha. Seriously though, if it’s desirable to me then that’s what matters. I used to prefer the black dial mostly because I did not want to pay a significant premium for the JC.

Now, I would say go for the JC. It’s prettier and the black I last saw for sale in this forum was slightly below srp bnib.

Definitely a JC may be had at retail if you are willing to wait. I would.

got the black dial one.
have to say the JC is stunning one
it is glossy one, laquered one, the most
wonderfull one.But truely the Deep Sea is not that
comfortable to wear even the 126660.
At last in spite the marvelous JC dial I turn to
the single red 126600.

I disagree! Feels as hefty as a PM watch.

Awesome! I had a hard time deciding between the black dial and the JC. Then the SD43 came in to play - ugh! Went with the JC as I already have a black dial Omega diver. I now wear it every day and love it to bits!!

Black DSSD is the best to me. I was offered both. Someone advised to buy used for $9k. Dude is smoking crack. You won't find a 2018 triple 6 for less than $10.5k, and that'd be a desperate seller.

I'm assuming we're talking about the same model here, even though you didn't list the number correctly. The 126660 retails for $12,250. You can buy it used for around $11.5k - $12k.

There is no $9k triple 6 in the 12 series. Maybe 116660, but that's a different watch with a different movement and skinnier bracelet.

As for the JC. It's more popular, but I have no clue why. That dial would get old fast and the bright green lettering is kind of tacky with the blue. Like I've said before, reminds me of the Seahawks colors. Not a real classic look.

I never understood someone asking a group of strangers if they should buy a watch! If you like it and can afford it I would think that’s enough of a reason to buy.
Is it desirable to you, that’s all that matters, this is why there is a shortage, people just buy because of FOMO.

Have to agree; despite whats in this thread it seems more financially driven for demand on a future sell than any real interest.

Has nothing to do with future sale. I wasn’t expecting a call from my AD so I just wanted to get an opinion.

If I really wanted to flip watches I would have bought the green dial Daytona YG offered as well.

I’m actually really happy with the DeepSEA although it was never on my want list.

You will buy it only if it is a desirable model .Want to flip it for a profit ?

Point wasn’t to consider for flipping. I have been trying to build with an AD here in ATL. I bought a Chnr less than a month ago and they called me for this piece out of the blue. I was asking about the desired nature given I hadn’t asked or inquired about an allocation.

Interestingly enough the AD then said she could get me a Daytona SS before EOY.

I just passed on a black deepsea last week. The reason is because I have a black sea- dweller and wanted a different dial. Or else I would have bought it in a heartbeat. The black dial just has that classic look.
