Icon14 “What-is-the-Real-Beauty-of-the-DAYTONA... CLUB”

I wanted to have an area for folks to discuss All of the nuances that make the DAYTONA an amazing watch to wear.

Things like how it feels, it’s racing heritage, how the lights dance off all the surfaces, symmetry and so forth...

A Few pics to start.

They do say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder myself not a fan of the modern day Daytona. Its a watch that was hyped out of all proportion even since introduction way back in 2000.And now we have the ceramic version which in the real world is just a cosmetically changed 2000 Daytona. And like since way back in 2000 almost impossible to get at retail.I sometime wonder that owning and wearing a watch thats hard to get somehow has made the Daytona to some the greatest thing since sliced bread.Yes its a great watch with a fantastic movement but so have many others but any modern day Daytona not my cup of tea.

But my 6263 which at the time Rolex could not give them away IMHO is a far better looking watch.

i just like the watch,,

not sure about any racing heritage. apart from it being a chronograph and the name daytona . so cosmograph links it with cosmonaghts and outer space ?
The only thng linking rolex to the daytona curcuit to my knowledge was that rolex were the official time keeper of the race but i highly doubt they used a "daytona" to time the race.

its just a nice watch that i wear and enjoy .. to me thats it

Wait, I'm confused. Is this a thread for fans to celebrate what they like about a Daytona, or for naysayers to piss on the parade?

Personally, I love the look of Daytonas. I think every version has looked great from 1963 on. The movement is robust, and even though I don't use the timing function a lot, I enjoy having it and playing with it. The first watch I ever got was in the early '70s when the family went to Europe and I got a Tissot chrono. That's long gone, but the Daytona I own now is my second chrono. I am pretty sure I'll always own one, and likely I'll always own this one. They are practical enough to wear every day, all day and that's pretty much what I do.

It's not the only great watch out there, or the only great Rolex out there. They are virtually all nice. This happens to be the one I like best. Others will prefer a DD, GMT, Sub, etc. It does get perhaps more acclaim than it "deserves" compared to other great watches, but it's my favorite. To each his own.

Peter although it's just watch for you please enjoy that nice 6263 Daytona as long as you can.
For me those pieces have become too expensive to buy one but man I would be over the moon owning one of those.

We would now have celebrated the 50th anniversary of moon landing with the "Cosmograph" if Rolex Daytona had been better than Omega at the time. Speedmaster obviously was racing inspired but became a space watch.. funny how things turned out in the end.

Peter, love your watch!
Funny - it must be worth more than the OP's PM watch and the car in the background!
Real under the radar value I think!
Cool!
Enjoy it for many years to come!
Dave :)

Icon12 “It’s just so dern Comfortable...”

I have to say that although all of my ROLEX watches wear nicely( 116618lb YG Smurf, and 116600 Sd4k, as well as a 116655 RG Yacht-Master,) I sometimes forget that I Am wearing the DAYTONA due to its Comfort and how it Lays on my wrist...

I have many more points to discuss...

And a Big Resounding Yes to the 6263 shown above as the King of Daytona’s...

Not sure the relevance since it was not directing traffic or suggesting otherwise to a watch for sale.

By that logic, we cant start threads or post about models that we have put up for sale?

Back to topic, my white dial.

It was for sale but is Off Market. I thought I wanted to sell and this morning made up my mind to keep the RG DAYTONA which Retail's at $38,600

I came to the conclusion that It is a beautiful and Comfortable ROLEX and I can not part with it, since it does make me feel good when I admire it either on my wrist or someone else's.

So minutes after making this thread I took it off Market, as well as my 116618 LB. ( I realized that I can not sell either, only ADD...)

I also want to mention I thought about the 116505 that you posted above with the Pink Dial and Black Sub-Dials, but preferred the darker dial to offset the Rose Gold of the Bracelet and Bezel.

Back to topic, my white dial.

If you start a thread referring to a watch you have in the, "For Sale" section of this forum, you will in all probability get an infraction point, or 2 depending on your current status...

One of my favorite TT's by the way...

Sounds good. Making the right choice. My biggest fear is that Rolex changes the 116505 and gives it the supercase treatment. While the case/end links were partially beefed from the 16500 reference, it never received the boxy supercase overhaul which is why I love this model.

Thanks mate. I am going to upgrade soon to the 116519LN, which I have never seen in person, lol.

And re the post, was only referencing relating to a model line; not actually linking to a post, as I understand that is infractionable (word).
