Anyone see a black dial Explorer II at an AD lately?
Hard to stomach some of the grey/secondary prices on this particular watch but I really want one and would prefer new.
Thoughts/suggestions?? |

March at Long’s in Boston. I personally haven’t seen one at an AD since.

I ordered a white dial in April. Original projections from my AD were 3-4 weeks. I’m still waiting.
Saw a black dial in the case when I placed my order but haven’t seen one since. I agree that grey prices are becoming more difficult to stomach. I remember when they were bellow MSRP... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I never see any ss sports watches nor stainless steel classics above 36mm in any AD's I visit. It's like looking for a unicorn.

Saw one in April (well offered one at least), and another one in May. Note both were out of the country.

I see one gray dealer, well known to TRF, has a new black dial listed at $8,975 which is $875 above retail. If you want to rationalize your purchase consider that buying from him will save you the sales tax bringing it closer to current MSRP of $8,100.

Stop by a local AD in-person (hopefully one you've purchased from in the past) and voice your serious interest. Should not be very difficult to source this one brand new with a little bit of a wait.
You don't need to go grey with this one if you don't want to. |

Haven’t seen one for ages in the UK, and I used to see them routinely, alongside steel Datejusts, TT Subs and Explorer I. Don’t so many of any of those now.
It’s a waiting list piece over here, from what ADs have told me. Maybe somewhere they’ll be available in the window though. I ordered the black dial Exp II a few days ago and was told to expect one fairly soon, as they had no-one on the list for it. |

Yea seems like the white /polar are generally a little more scarce. I’ve been to a few ADs locally who were completely out of stock on these (and many more, per the millions of posts on scarcity) and just have the general impression that they had no idea when they’d have another

I remember when the 216570 was first released the gray dealers were selling them at close to a $1,000 premium and the ADs were overwhelmed by requests from customers (sound familiar?). Things finally settled down price wise after a few months and the white dial seemed to be more popular and harder to find. I was lucky enough to find one at an AD in Louisiana. He had one white that just arrived and three black in the display case.
