Hi Gents

I have a Daytona ceramic, 2001 Submariner and a 1991 Day Date in yellow gold on a dark brown croc strap. The watch which gets the most wrist time is the Submariner.

I am drawn to Date Justs for some reason I cannot explain, probably because I admire the Jubilee bracelet but do not yet have the funds for an older GMT on a Jubilee if I am brutally honest with myself. I also feel that if I did have the funds for the GMT, I would be able to justify instead, a AP Royal Oak...

Before I commit to an all steel 16063 or newer Date Just - anywhere from around 1975 - 1995, does anyone own an older DJ and an older Day Date, and if so, do both gain wrist time?

I am worried that there may be no point buying a DJ if I already have a DD. The other option is to part exchange the DD for a white gold DD on the bracelet. I think the DD on a gold bracelet is just too much.

I am grateful for any suggestions/experiences.

I own a 1803 and multiple 1601’s. They are very different watches, and I vastly prefer them over their modern counterparts.

I went with a WG DD (18239) because I thought it would get more wrist time than a YG. It just seems to me that YG is too much for everyday wear.

I wear my 18238 all the time, casual or formal. Go with what you are comfortable with and what suits your style. I used to own a 16014 and it was a great watch. Pic of each below

My first Rolex was 16014. It gets no wrist time at all now. I've got a 18038 that I wear occasionally. My Milgauss was my go to, but my Smurf gets the most time now. I wish I had gotten a 16233 when I got the 16014.

WG DD on bracelet with a non-flashy white or silver dial flies totally under the radar. Even this 18249 with the bark decoration is very low-key.

I bought his for its bracelet but love wearing it. It’s just so comfortable. 1977 Sigma dial 1601.

DJ and DD are complimentary, you can have both.

If both end up in white metals just make sure the dials are materially different. If you can find a older / vintage DJ with an interesting dial that would differentiate it from the the WG DD you might acquire via the trade then I think you are good.

You’ll also have different bracelets on the DJ and DD.

Nothing wrong with all gold, although WG is a little more subtle.
