Daytona Ceramic chased me down
Had a client ask me if I collected watches. (I was wearing an apple watch at that moment). Replied that I liked them, but not a real collector. He had just gotten a Ceramic Black Dial Daytona at a AD. He had not even tried it on yet.
So I traded my 2004 Black Daytona (wore the heck out of it for 15 hard years) and a bit of cash difference. I placed it in my safe last week and haven't even had a chance to look at it yet. When I see the gray prices, and the AD number decline; it makes me tempted to let it rest and get another Rolex to wear on the heavy rotation....or put 2-3 watches on a lighter rotation than the previous Daytona saw (I have a very active/phyical lifestyle) Searching for a Daytona was the last thing on my mind. So, I didn't get the chance to really enjoy the process of looking at Dial Colors etc. I had no idea the Pro SS models had jumped up so much in price. Now I am rejuvenated in looking at Rolex's (hence joining the forum) Trying to see what I would want next, (realizing I will have to hunt this time) I am not paying gray prices. In pictures, the white dial Daytona seems to pop, is that as true in person? Thought about a Red Letter Sea Dweller (I dive a good bit, but it would be symbolic as I use a dive computer) or a Sky Dweller SS blue dial (it seems a bit large and maybe dressier than a day to day casual watch, living at the beach??) I considered begging for a white dial daytona or maybe the Jubilee BLNR (batman) (I understand these aren't easy to get) I haven't considered a TT or PM, so I would most likely be looking in the stainless line. Any thoughts on what else to get? |

Agree with the above. I too, am lucky to own both and the White dial is the more rarer of the two. I prefer the White dial over the black, even though the Black dial is more of a stealthy look and the White is the one that 'pops'. (stickers were removed off Black dial - pic is for reference while changing the bracelets to OF. Haven't worn the White dial that often maybe twice since purchasing)

Thanks
I did stop by my Ad the other night and did some window shopping; It is amazing how large some of the watches are now; I think I like a bigger watch, but the Daytona sure does wear well |

An AD will have to order the Oysterflex straps for you in your size (C - H). I know they will only order it for a watch that it already comes on (116519,116518, 116655 etc) as a serial must be provided, so if you state you want to place it in a 500LN, they most likely won't order it as it does not originally come with it. Also, I have heard now that Rolex is doing a swap only for OF straps, so it might have become a bit harder to obtain. Endlinks are from smartyendlinks.com (116520) Hope this helps!

I've been eyeing up a TT Daytona recently (116503) and wondered what do the small dials on the face actually do and how do you function them as there is only 2 push buttons at either sides of the crown right?

Bottom subdial is your seconds hand. The big seconds hand is only for chronograph. The left subdial is hour counter for the chronograph and the right is a 30 minute register for the chronograph. The pusher on the top is used to start and stop the chronograph, and the bottom pusher is used for resetting the chronograph. The subdial positions in my example are given for in-house Daytonas. In Zenith Daytona the hour counter is where the seconds subdial is on the in-house and vice versa.

This story sounds fishy to me.
More details please. Why would a "client" randomly want to trade his brand new watch for an older Daytona that he didn't even know you had? |

So effectively the big 'seconds hand' would be static all the time if you don't press the top pusher? I think I'd rather use that for my seconds hand than the small dial. I guess people do that?

No fish here I had typed out a longer version of the story, but it got to wordy.... I am a dentist, he comes in every few months or so. I surmise he may have seen my Daytona at some point; or he may have had assumptions that I liked watches for some reason. I did ask for first right of refusal on my old one, but I think he took it NY for a service/polish..snagged this quick proof of lifer with the date/time; not sure why it rotated? not that way on my desktop.. Picture added to original post a few minutes later, if your gonna ask why the two minute difference Any further questions? |

Yeah, I was a little confused as well, that does help. I'd suggest that you either flip that Daytona and make some money on it, or just wear it and enjoy it. Of course, if you have a good practice, you can afford to buy a few more. Maybe a dive watch?

I had a sub from 1989-2004... I seem to be on a 15 year wear rotation
I think a red letter sea dweller would wear well Them sit back and wait for rare watches to pop up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
