How polished is this 16610?

Hello all,

I've recently caught the Submariner bug and have my eyes set on a 16610.

I am looking at this Z serial for a decent price and it is in excellent, like new condition. However, I'm not sure if it shows no wear because it was actually well cared for or whether it was over-polished for selling.

Based on these pictures, does this watch seem to be (over) polished? The main question is around the curvature around the tip of the bottom right lug - is it tapered due to overpolishing? I can't seem to tell over internet photos. Any insight from or comparison to an unpolished 16610 would be much appreciated!

Thanks

It's a 10 year old watch that has been cleaned up, ready to sell.

It looks to be in good shape.

Good to hear - can you elaborate on what you mean by 'Rolex standards'? Does Rolex publish some sort of guidelines?

its been polished 100%. Lugs arent as sharp anymore and look a little rounded but it looks ok.

If its a good price I would buy it

It's been polished a few times, but then again, all new watches come polished from Rolex, right?!

It looks decent.

little polishing isn't too bad. Its not super sharp, but it still has even lugs.

The problem is that bottom right lug is represented differently in 3 of the photo’s. Could be from photoshop cropping out background.

So comparisons are going to be difficult.

See what I mean below - enlarged detail from 3 angles seller provided.

Each pic shows different stories - and only 2 agree on rounded lower right lug.

I think the one with the black background is from a different watch or was lifted from another source.

Who is the seller? That’s the major question now that the pics are anomalous.

Paul, good comparison. However I think the lug you want to look at on the black background is the one pictured top right in that photo, where the crown is to the right side. . That’s the 5:00 lug, since the watch is flipped over. I can see a rounded area on that lug and it seems to correspond to the photos from the front side, for that lug.

OP, it’s not a bad watch but there are other examples with all 4 lugs square. This one would bug me unless it’s a heck of a deal. Happy hunting.

Looks good, solid studio pics, good lighting and certainly worth an extra look - even an offer. I'd say however that its more likely a heavily Cape Codded watch than a 'polished' one.

Ask for a pic of the watch caseback w/o the buckle in the way, and the inside part of the buckle with the DE opened. That's usually ignored during reconditioning and if you see blemishes, corrosion there, that's a better indication of the watch's intake condition and how it could look once the Cape Cod work wears off.

Wow this is my first post here and I appreciate all the friendly and helpful responses - thanks everyone!!

Based on the responses, I think it's worth a second look. The seller has a generous return policy, so I have purchased the watch to inspect in person
