Grand Seiko diver at 40mm or smaller?

I’d love to add a GS to the collection. Don’t believe there is anything in the current GS catalog that isn’t quite large...any idea if there are older discontinued models that might fit?

HAQ would also be great as an option...really hoping that GS expands upon the SGBN gmt and SBGV sport watch quartz lineup with a diver...

It’s not a diver per se, but the SBGV 243/245 has 200m WR, 40mm and under 12 thick

That’s an interesting watch...was hoping for a diver though (prefer to add a complication). Love those and the quartz GMTs as well. Hope they keep adding models in that spirit.

I agree with you though - I’ve really gotten into both Seiko and GS and would like to add a diver, but wish they made one that is more accommodating to smaller wrists. I’ve had my eye on a mini turtle, but afraid that one’s TOO small.

Rumor is smaller sizes divers coming, but no one's knows when, hopefully next year. Would have loved the hibeat grand Seiko diver in a wearable size.

Funny...that was my exact thought...need to find a mini turtle locally to try it on

I would have a look at a GS diver, the lugs are small and they wear a lot smaller than the size suggests. I was surprised, I normally only like up to about 39mm (I have a 6.5" wrist) but the Seiko divers wear small.

Try one on.

Thanks - appreciate the input. I'm not too close to an AD, but will definitely check them out next time I'm close by. I am also typically of the 40mm or less mindset but know that lug-to-lug and shape can really impact how it wears. I saw a thread on a diff forum comparing the SBGX115 and the new SBGX337 to a supercase GMT II, and the GS definitely wore smaller than the stated size, but still bigger than the Rolex (to my eyes)

I would look at the SLA017. Not GS but every bit as good.

Does it need to be a diver? Personally, I think the exquisite zaratsu polishing lends itself best to non-divers.

I've nearly pulled the trigger on the mini a couple of times but the L2L scares me off. It's something like 42.5 while still being 13 thick. Concerned that would be a bit awkward. I have small wrists (6.5-6.75 depending on the day) but not tiny wrists.

If Seiko would come out with a diver at or below 42 with a L2L at or under 48, buddy, sign me up. (yes I know a SKX would fit those parameters but I can't do without hacking/handwinding)

I've considered going the Orient route as their proportions are more favorable than Seiko but Orient's divers don't come off as toolish as I would like. I'd like something unique rather than something that is in the realm of a Sub imitation.

Doesn’t need to be, but I was looking to add a diver and am also very intrigued by GS. Two birds with one stone...if possible...

I’ve come close to pulling the trigger on a GS before but have enough time-only and Dual Time pieces that I would worry about whether it would see wrist time without some distinguishing feature from the others.

Let’s hope for future releases that fit the bill. A 9F quartz diver would be really cool and can help with keeping the size down....although that hasn’t been the case size-wise so far...

Thanks for the suggestion—another to add to the list. This looks pretty good and hadn’t heard of it.

I had an sbgx117. I would say it wears small for the measured dimensions but it's still a chunky watch. I mean watchuseek posters talk about how the tuna SBDB013 wears small since it has no lugs, but it's still 50mm. I was set to buy one until I tried it on, it looked like a massive hockey puck attached to my wrist.

Well, that was impulsive!
Went to Long Island Watches and found a NEW Seiko Padi Baby Turtle. I know it’s not what you’re looking for Stateman but thought I’d throw it out there for other TRF members to see. Price shown does not reflect the 5% discount I got. Hope it doesn’t wear too large!

Awesome, congrats! Can't wait to see some wrist shots.

Sadly for us with below 7" wrists, most GS sports pieces are monsters. I was so excited for the new quartz divers until I learned they're 43mm which is just way too big for me to pull off. I wear my watches; I don't want them wearing me.

The moment GS releases a steel 40mm diver with either a 9F or SD movement, shut up and take my money.

I've gotta add my voice to the chorus. Classical black and white dive aesthetic, spring drive at 40-20-12ish dimensions, 200m WR.

The number of insta-sales they would have from bewildered sub buyers alone would be staggering.

I hope they're considering it...seems consistent with recent 9F releases in GMT and 3-hand sport watch (eg SBGV245) models...so true though, there would be so many of us interested in a more reasonably sized GS sport watch

Long Island Watch website shows the PADI Baby turtle as out of stock now! You just might see those incomings.

Shall we get a petition going and send it to Seiko?
I’d also like their Ladies watches to be bigger than their usual 29-30 mm. I guess I’m just fussy :)
