Correct Screw Size for Presidential Bracelet

Hello,

I can't seem to find this anywhere after searching for a good while so I'll go ahead and ask. Does anyone know the correct screw size for an 1803 presidential bracelet with hidden clasp? I'm looking to order a screw driver to resize the bracelet.

Also, is Esslinger a good website to order Bergeon tools from? I don't see many other sites that offer the same selection.

Thanks!

IIRC, I’ve seen both 1.6 & 1.7mm stated here on TRF - Easiest route may be to buy a 1.8 and sandpaper it narrower to an exact fit if needed, 1 or 2/10 of a mm is a very small amount to remove. There is a whole thread about the Horofix 1.7 screwdriver, and according to the dropdown option menu HERE on Esslinger, if the correct length is 14mm as shown below, diameter is 1.7mm, If length is 14.4, diameter is 1.6mm.

There is this, from a screw supplier, saying they are 1.6 -

Thanks for the very detailed and thorough response! I may just order both the 1.6mm and 1.7mm screwdrivers and see which works best.

Troy, buying one or two doesn’t make all that much sense when you can get an entire set for around $10 or $12. The postage would be the same buying just one. And I promise you’ll be glad you have a few because something WILL come up that will require a weird size!

Here’s one:

Those were actually the exact ones I was looking at. If you look at the fine print, they’re $11 each, not for a set, LOL.

I was fooled at first too.

Doh!!
You know, now that I think about it, that’s probably why I went and got a cheap set on Amazon....which have held up fine over the last few years.

My pleasure, post an update after your test?

Also, FYI people have been known to snap off these tiny screwdriver tips — It helps to heat up the link first with a hair dryer, to soften the Loctite. You may also want to order a bottle of Loctite 222 (nothing stronger!) for replacing the screw.

I do remember reading a few threads about loctite, I'll be sure to look into that too. Sure, I can post an update!

These are all steel, buy the real deal from gold. It will avoid wearing out your lug holes from the case.

The cheap route will otherwise become expensive
