Emergency battery replacement help needed.

My Emergency (1st edition I believe) watch no longer displays the time/date etc functions but after testing the emergency frequency all looks to be powered up ok on that side of the watch.

So..... do I really need to send my watch to Breitling for a replacement battery (service) for just under the grand sum of £500...!!! It did have one 2 and a half years ago and was satin finished etc... and still looks brand new so I don't feel I need this part of the service.....its a digital watch after all.

Surely the battery for the functions part of the watch can be replaced without sending it away... Look forward to any suggestions or experiences you may have had in the past...

Given the fact that this is potentially life saving device, I would go to Breitling. There are YouTube videos on how to replace the batteries, but again, how do you plan to use it? I had the Titanium version, now I have the Mission and Breitling ll. The Mission battery lasted 4 years, but after 2 years the transmitter battery power goes down quickly. The 2-year battery cycle is there to ensure that your Emergency would be able to send the life saving signal for intended period. Alternatively, if you like digital, look at Evo.

I had the titanium version and replaced the batteries in mine 3 times during my ownership. It's a pretty easy process if you have the right size screw driver and a case opener. I used to have a go-by that I saved so I'll see if I can locate it. My other suggestions are to be sure to wear rubber gloves and have a open and clean surface to work on - keep any contaminates out of the case.

Many thanks and yes I'm pretty handy around battery changes and have the tools... Its got to be worth a DIY rather than £500 on 3 new batteries...

You're very welcome. The only 2 things that come to mind while looking at the pictures are: be really careful with the rubber seals since they're pretty thin, and when putting the case back on with the 4 screws ensure the seal is properly aligned for the screw openings.

DIY only if you *think* you know what you are doing. If you have doubt, send it to BSC.

A battery change at BSC is cheaper than a new movement :P

I do all my my battery DIY (Omega X-33, Grand Seiko, Aerospace, etc), but I am willing to take my time to do it slow, and willing to take the responsibility of my one action.

Only reason you'd want BCS to do it would be so they can verify the water resistance after the battery change. Otherwise, changing a watch battery is changing a watch battery.
