Wolf Watch Winder and TPD (bidirectional) - what is right??
Hi guys
So quick question as I am seeing so many different things online. Seems most automatic Rolexes require 650 TPD bidirectional. Great! Was looking to buy a Wolf watch winder and generally thought it would be easy to plug in '650', set it to bidirectional and then it would do 325 clockwise/anti-clockwise. Reading the Wolf FAQs and product guides, it says: Rotation settings range from 300 to 1200 turns per day (TPD), double that if set on bidirectional That seems to imply that in this case, the correct thing to do would be to put in 325 TPD bidirectional from the outset. Like I said, seen so many differing things online about this and what is right. I saw one post where Wolf themselves apparently said that the recommended TPD for bidirectional is BOTH WAYS which sounds crazy. Anyone that can solve the mystery? Don't fancy winding my watches for 100% than required! |

My suggestion would be to fully wind your Rolex then set your winder to 650 ( bi-directional ) then put the watch in it and see if it’s still keeping good time after 3-4 days and if not bump up the TPD on the winder and if it is keeping time correctly you can always go lower on the TPD until you see it fall off then back up just alittle
I was using an older Heiden winder but have decided not to use one anymore as none of my watches have serious complications and I don’t want the added wear on my pieces so I just set them when they come into rotation and I actually enjoy the winding setting process

Hi, I simply observed the Winder to determine how many 'turns' it did in the various settings. My observations were consistent with the somewhat limited "instructions' provided with the Winder.
I settled on using a bi-directional setting and running the Winder for approximately 12 hours in 24 as fewer hours did not adequately wind the watches. This equates to about 1200 turns per day. I manually wind and reset the watches once each month and the time on the Winder maintains a consistent 'error' (loss/gain) daily/monthly without other adjustment.
