Rolex GMT-Master 16700
Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 16700- Last batch of Pepsi Tritium dial. Another interesting fact is that GMT-Master II was exclusively offered in coke insert until Ref. 16700 got discontinued in 1999. So, from 1989 to early 1998, there wasn’t a 16710 on T<25 dial and Pepsi Bezel available in the market.
If you have a GMT master II on tritium and pepsi bezel insert, chances are, it was replaced or not original to the watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is "fake news" at its best.

Speaking of inserts not being original to the watch, shouldn't this one be a serif style given the date range?

Interestingly, the talking points book from 1.1992 has 2 photos of the 16700
Underneath the photo shown above showing non serif, the second photo does show serif font pepsi bezel Also, the coke gmt master 2 also shows serif bezel Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

And just to confuse you all even more, the Rolex Oyster book from a few month later ( 5.1992) shows both 16700 pepsi and 16710 coke with non serif bezels !!!!

The 16710 GMT II, introduced in 1989 came with all 3 versions of insert and was sold along side the GMT 16700 for a decade in tritium. The 16760 GMT II Fat Lady, made in '83 to '88 came only in red/black.

Rolex reused many photos for their booklets throughout the years. Not only for GMTs but other models.
Check out a 1979 Submariner owner's manual - notice the red Submariner 1680!!!

Lee, on you NOS 16700, is it just the “4”s that have serifs, or do the 2s etc also have these ?
My S series 16700 ( but sent to dealer Aug 1996 ( by red writing on back of cert) has only slight serif tendencies on the 4 So not sure if I should call this serif or not? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I have a near mint to mint, almost NOS, T serial 16700, circa 1995/96, without seriffs which is close to or prior to, the seriff inserts. I also have an NOS/stickered A serial 16700, sold during March 2000, with a black seriff insert.

Do we know how many Al insert suppliers Rolex used ?
Were there different suppliers for the USA vs EU, or did they all come from Switzerland? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
