I have the chance to buy this 1968 1600 black GILT dial datejust
Dial is beautiful

I can buy it with michael chang restored d link bracelet with all links and fluted white gold bezel

Or period correct folded link also restored and engine turned bezel.

I like the d link and engine turn but considering collectability which would you choose?

Thanks in advance!

Shouldn't a 1600 have a smooth bezel?

Sorry, I just took a close look at your photos, and the dial is not convincing to me. If you look at the text closely, it's really sloppy.

Not worried about dial, i love it.
1600 is smooth but wondering which of the options i posted as the threads titled work the best together.

Well, you mentioned collectibility in your first post, so that's why I mentioned the dial. But if you love it, then buy it. I'd suggest you take the same approach with the bezel and bracelet, since they are truly just matters of personal taste.

Explain “not convincing” not convinced of what?

Anyways thanks for your input

This is a place of fun discussion if everyone replied the way you did what is the point of discussing watches!

Any other suggestions out there? :)

I'm not sure why you are adopting that tone, since I only tried to help. I'm sorry you don't like my responses. I will bow out and let others provide their opinions.

Watch was also serviced at rolex in 2017, am i wrong thinking they don't service “franken” watches?

Gilt?

Take a macro shot of the fonts. If the fonts are on top of the black paint, it is not a gilt dial.

BTW, your watch isn't a 1600. it's a 1603 (look at the bezel )
a 1600 should have a smooth bezel.

This doesn’t look like a gilt dial at all. It is marked Swiss which should be correct for a early 60s gilt but the dial looks like a re-print. If the papers are correct then I expect the dial was switched after the service.

I have recently returned an 1803 with similar gold fonts on a black dial as the dial was aftermarket. Tread carefully. Check the big sellers sites, like HQ Milton where you can compare many.
Also best not to flame others who are responding to your request for help.

Personally, I much prefer the engine turned bezel.

If you want thoughts on gilt dial, get a macro shot of the lower SCOC text, preferably in a raking slanted light. In that last shot, the dial looks darker around the lower SCOC text, but could be a photo artifact.

Yours is a 1600 with a 1603 bezel. It appears that yours is a matte dial T Swiss T.

See if yours is anything like my gilt:

It is a redial imo.
Look at “certified”. Pretty obvious there.

PS: OP, you are asking for opinions....be ready to hear what you don't wanna hear.

First little hint is that you will not see a gold coronet on the dial on a steel watch. :)

Also, these hands paired with this coronet...if I may add.
Best case scenario this watch is a franken with a redial.

The real deal should look like this:

looking again on a larger screen laptop. There is a stranger rectangular shaded area larger than that of the lower text looking like dial has been cleaned.

That is just a reflection of the lens on the phone used to take the picture.

Oh, since it is a 1600 it should have a smooth bezel, anything else is wrong. The dial is not what I would expect or want either.
