Vintage 5513 looks too perfect to me

Someone locally trying to sell this as an all factory 5513. I'm not a vintage expert but isn't the dial way too perfect? The watch doesn't have a mark on it and there is zero patina on the dial.

Maybe I'm off but I'd appreciate any opinions.

Like you im no vintage expert (or any other type of expert) but......zero yellowing of the clear plastic on the bifold and a sticker on the caseback? The markers look like they were freshly painted with a yellowing to add to the patina look. Internet sez this would be 50+ years old and the markers would be lifted/flaking at the edges by now. The paper of the 'Guarantee' looks like it was printed yesterday.

Get some clear, straight on shots of the dial and case (and back), as well as case engravings, movement shots, Caseback image. I have no comment on the papers since they’re not my thing but fake papers doesn’t mean fake watch (if they are fake).

I’m not saying this is the case but there’s an industry of fake vintage models being built.

I’d get pics of the engine and every detail of the seller and watch.

It’s too perfect imop and the patina looks almost manufactured.

Hand lume and indices would not age in the same way. For me this watch is raising too many queries. Have you got pics of the movement?

Many original vintage watches have tritium dial lume and hand lume that patina the same. I've owned many.

dial, hand and case rebuilding and refinishing is huge right now. Michael Young is reworking dials and hands and Rolliworks is pumping out Vintage lug and case rebuilds left and right. Cases are looking brand new when they are done and no one would know the wiser unless disclosed.

I thought this was the most likely scenario. Real watch but refinished or aftermarket dial. I won't make any assumptions but I'll be staying away from this one.

I think you're being too harsh on a refinish job. This could be a very nice vintage watch at a steal of a price - obviously refinishing diminishes the value, but if you want a classic piece, it's probably been serviced and cleaned as well. I'd get it to a Rolex Service Center and have it carefully evaluated- but I wouldn't give up so quickly on it- these are hard to come by.

If it has a refinished dial then it is a very, very clean one.

From those pics I can’t say much more than the backside of the lugs where the endlink tabs appear too pristine.

I know it’s hard to get all the pics people want to see. If the seller won’t remove the bracelet to shoot very sharp closeups of the engravings between the lugs and some of the other angles already mentioned then you have a good reason to wonder further about him.

Is the seller asking some very high price?

I dont think so. Dial looks correct provenance on that, but first (large) photos are relumed hands and dial.

Those Papers look as fake as a 3 dollar bill. But then again, I am no expert with vintage but those papers look to minty and are likely a reprint.

I have never in my life seen a folded link bracelet so perfect.

Maybe we’ve just indirectly confirmed that time travel exists now...

This watch doesn’t look refinished - it looks never-blemished.

I also noticed the lack of rub marks on the back of the lugs from the end links.

Did anyone else notice that the coronet on the crown is perfectly lined up? According to Phillip Ridley, the new Rolex replacement crown+tubes line up either upside down or right side up, but perfectly up and down. What I’m saying is I doubt the original stock crown and tube aligned perfectly. Best case, it’s a very recent modern replacement.

Best case situation overall, this was a recase with new old stock bracelet and other bits. Worst case, who knows what this is...

Echo the need for additional pics (straight on high res of dial, movement, between the lugs). With the way it's presented, alot to be concerned.

As is, without more high res proper pics and not knowing the seller, I would assume fake dial, questionable case and fake papers.
