Info about Crime statistics in DC-Houston-Maryland

Hi guys

This will be my first time that i visit US. so i wonder is it necessary that leave my watch and jewelry at home in Denmark or at least at the hotel when i go out ( day + night ). i heard from friends that about april will be warm in maryland and DC and HOOOT in houston. so cant really hide my watch or stuff under my sleeve..

I grew up in DC mostly (after I moved from Pittsburgh). Maryland-DC are among the wealthiest parts of the US (after San Fran, SoCal, NY/NY/Conn, parts of Florida...). There are parts of DC you want to avoid. DC is divided into 4 quarters. Probably 99% of where you will go is in the posh qtr (NW). Most of Maryland is very nice near DC. Baltimore is more dangerous but is 45 minutes away.

You have nothing to worry about. Plus the temps could be in the 50's or 70's.

Great part of the country to visit. Been to Houston, but do not know it as well.

DC is mostly nice but has bad areas... bring 1 watch.. never remove from wrist and never try and "make note" of what brand it is to anyone and you'll be safe/fine..

all area's described are pretty safe, well very safe considering what else is out there in world BUT you are never 100% safe.. i just make sure to never note what i wear and if someone asks that i dont know..

Hi Viet

I'm not American, but I have been to the USA many many times, specially to the DC. I can tell that I agree 100% with AIKO and I have something to add. In Washington DC, I have seen the largest amount of men wearing Rolex in my life and I usually don't worry about my Rolex in the DC. When I visited Baltimore for the first time, I was asked by my host who was waiting for me in the train station not to get out of the station when she comes to pick me up unless I see her car.

Lived in DC for 5 years. Stay out of South East DC, Benning road, etc.
Also, Prince George County Maryland, and Baltimore.
Been gone for over a year now, so not crime has gotten better in those areas. I doubt it.

Have a nice trip!

Houston isnt bad at all, I used to live there, and I wore my TT Sub all the time, and nobody ever gave it a second look.

I live in Houston and you have nothing to worry about. There are PLENTY of Rolexes around and I never hesitate to wear mine. You need to be cautious WHEREVER you are....times have changed.

I do not believe you need to worry about wearing your Rolex in America. Some areas are good, some are bad. I would just make certain as a precaution that you have insurance coverage on all your valuables and you will be fine. Enjoy your visit to the states and have a good time!!!

Heh, the first time I went to America everybody told me all of these crazy horror stories about how dangerous America is. Brush your seat in movie theaters for tacks! Don't wear anything nice! Leave all of your valuables at home! Then when you get to America you realize everybody is pretty much more or less just like you.

Surprisingly it is NOT a third World Country!

well said. SouthEast DC is a rough place, and PG county, MD...landover, lanham, laurel, bowie, etc..are rough too..and baltimore city is unpredictable. one block is oky..and you make a left turn and its terrible...

Search for the tiny jewel box! awesome. also J.Brown jewelers which is just outside of Dc in Maryland...and for the BEST deals..Edward Arthur Jewelers in Columbia, MD. ask for randy or Ed Nunn and tell them Justin sent you in...they will take care of you from there!!!!!!
