Gift for the wife

Interested in getting this model for the wife, DJ31 two tone everose gold. Not sure to go with the Roman numerals or sticks. Thoughts?
Also, I’ve only purchased 2 Rolexs in my lifetime. First one from the Rolex on 5th ave Nyc (where this pic is taken) and the second from a private seller. I’ve seen people discuss getting discounts on certain models with ADs. Do you think this is one that might get a discount? The Rolex on 5th wouldn’t budge a penny lol.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I think she’ll like romans too.
I’m only seeing deals in the PM. Worth a shot.

i don't think you'll get a discount anywhere in the city. probably in jersey, but the biggest would probably be if you go grey imo

What’s considered grey market? Sorry but I’m a rookie.

Roman numerals, not sticks. If I hadn’t gotten diamonds, I would have went Roman.

I got my wife the TT datejust rose gold last year. I got 10% discount just because I asked. You just need to be courteous and politely ask for it. Don’t be afraid to ask. However, my AD is a small town jewelry store to be fair. FWIW, I like the sticks dial.

The grey market is the trusted sellers here on the forum. I bought my Rolex from Sohais, and it was a terrific experience and purchase...but there are a few other too.

Since you’ve already bought one from the local dealer, it might more fun and a better experience to bring your wife there to pick it up or size it.

By the way, your wife’s preference trumps ours, she likes romans, I like romans...and you like romans : )

Good luck, great watch

Just put a deposit on a 36mm TT Datejust for my wife today. She wanted sticks. Not a fan of the Roman numerals.

Get her a preowned Cartier, her and her friends will appreciate it more and you will save money.

THEN buy yourself the Rolex.

I don’t know a single woman who would rather have a used Cartier over a brand new Rolex.

And some women on this forum who have Rolex collections to compete with the best.

Not sure what kind of women you hang around.

Just bought a DJ31 everose fluted bezel with Romans and diamonds in the VI , Rhodium dial.

At two AD’s was offered with cash in hand 5 percent. Bought it in the airport with 17 percent below MSRP.

The old days are really over

My wife hated the Romans and wanted diamonds. This is such a person to person decision. I took my wife in to try on everything. Good thing I did. I would have picked Romans.

Bought my wife the exact same watch as in your pics for her 40th birthday. We both still marvel at how awesome the pink dial looks in various light conditions. I think the Roman numerals make it a bit more elegant but either way it’s an awesome timepiece.

I did Romans’s for Ann and she loves the dial. TT, white dial, flutted, Jubilee and Roman’s. Never leaves the wrist.

Whatever you do, please DO NOT buy her a watch based on what any forum member says their wife/girlfriend/sister/whatever likes. It's totally irrelevant. Your wife has her own taste and it's a dangerous path to tread for even you to try and second guess it unless you have had conversations about DJ variants in the past, or if she has various other DJs to benchmark from.

Only last week I was passing an AD with my significant other and as I had been contemplating getting her a DJ for an upcoming milestone birthday I decided to take her in on the guise of me looking for a DJ41 for myself and then steered the conversation to which of the ladies watches she liked. If I hadn't done this I was going to buy her a DJ36 (as I like a larger watch on a woman) but it was miles too big for her. The 31 was the perfect size. And through trying on a few I now know exactly what she likes (31, fluted bezel, steel jubilee, pink dial, romans). Job done. No guesswork required for the big day.

Even if I had guessed her size right, and even if I had taken a punt on the pink dial, I would definitely have gone for TT. She hated TT and said it's too flashy for her. I could have gotten that purchase soooooo wrong.

Agreed. I was trying to buy my wife a datejust. She actually wanted a steel sports rolex. Though I tried to steer her toward a submariner, she ended the search with the 36mm explorer.

In SoCal, many ladies wearing subs instead.
