Rolex Datejust

Hi All, looking for a nice used Rolex Datejust and landed on this one here at www.bobswatches.com/rolex-datejust-1.html with the Blue Dial in the first row. Its priced at $8995 and its a reference 116231 which is the model Date-Just i want. This will be my first Rolex and i have always wanted a two-tone model after seeing my Dad wear ones for years.

Any thoughts on this model Datejust?

Looks like he sells them for $8995 and buys them from you at $5800

Think I'd look elsewhere

Rolex Datejust

At one point I was interested in a Rolex from Bob’s - bad customer service and waaaay overpriced watches turned me away very fast. Stick to DavidSW.

Davidsd does not have the same watch listed. Most of his TT 36 are over 9k.

Bobs sells a lot of watches, and buys a lot of watches, they run a business, it's not a hobby.

If you can source the watch at a Rolex AD brand new, spend the extra, if you can't, take all knowledge and advice here with a grain of salt.

I'd keep searching. It took a while, but eventually I found my TT DJ from a trusted TRF member.
Good luck in the hunt

Do yourself a favor. Keep looking. With a little patience you can do much better than that deal.

Thanks Guys,
I've never heard of DavidSW, but i did just check out his site and found that his prices are higher than Bob's. Example: this one http://www.bobswatches.com/used-role...se-oyster.html is listed at $11,495, and DavidSW is at $13,375. That's $1,880 more!

this one listed on the forums https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...ghlight=116231 is priced at $9,650. That is $655 more.

I also dont feel comfortable wiring cash to an unknown seller on the forums. sorry.

Ive been told to check out Becker Time.

Are you looking for Rose gold with a blue dial? I don't track that model but I haven't seen a lot of them.

Becker Time.. I think I'd rather deal with Bob's although I've never dealt with either I've never heard anything positive of either (esp BT) I'll leave it there.... If you cant go AD try looking on TRF or even Chrono 24 (thousands of watches) I just scored a great deal for a 14060m on C/24 from a private owner and they hold your payment in escrow until you receive and approve your purchase.

Here's a different take on dismissing Bob's because of the difference in buy price and sell price.

Bob's lets you know straight out, up front, what their mark up is. Around 1/3d. In the jewelry business, that is a very reasonable mark up, and Bob's puts it right out there for everyone to see.

Does everyone have an idea what the standard mark-up is on gems? It would make you vomit, if you paid a ton for the wife's wedding set.

How about a pawn shop? If you want to sell a $9K Rolex guess what they will give you for it. Again, you'd vomit.

I have never dealt with Bob's, but I do look at the site once in awhile.

The OP is best served by finding his desired watch brand new at an AD. But if that is impossible, I seriously doubt Bob's is the worst place to deal with. They've been around a lot longer than most of the members of TRF

Agreed.
The AD would be my first choice but one needs to have some patience.
