Rolex Cellini: Real or Fake?
I inherited this watch. After handling it in person for a few minutes, I am feeling confident that it is fake. I spent more money than I wanted to, having this shipped to me. I really don't want to pay for a valuation, if it is obviously a fake to Rolex collectors/enthusiasts. What are your thoughts?
* On the face, the apostrophe above the second E, in Geneve, is not present. * On the face, the second L, in Cellini, is overlapping the dotted I. * On the face, Swiss is not present at 6 O'clock. * No numbers are present on the back of the watch. * There is K114 stamped on the band's clasp. |

Pop the back off. Then you will know for sure. It may be really old. But that crooked dial looks bad.

The back doesn’t appear that it will pop off easily. It looks like the movement is fixed to the back. I’ll just assume it is counterfeit, until I take something else in for appraisal. I’ll gamble without insurance for now.

If there is no case back to remove, it has to come out from the top. Pop the bezel/crystal off, hold the watch upside down , and turn the crown until you see the movement fall a little. If it does you have a 2 piece stem. Once it falls give a firm pull and it will come apart.

It looks like a model 4309. It may just have a repainted dial. Until it is opened up then it is really suspect but im not counting it out just yet based on only 3 photos.

And made in Italy? Really? Also nothing like a 4309 wrong strap for starters, no Swiss made on dial.

How do you inherit it but spend more on it than you would have liked?

I wrote having it shipped to me. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be authentic. The man was very cheap. I spent ~$150 USD having UPS pack it, insure it for 10k and ship it to me next day. I wanted to make the process as easy as possible on his elderly girlfriend. This girlfriend threw I fit that he left me his Lincoln Navigator. I gave it to her and she sent me this trash Rolex in return. I’m trying to let that go, and focus on remembering my relative.

Honestly The Cellini line I am not an expert for those types of watches. Although you can get a really good price for one though. They are not the most popular type or Rolex, but they are a nice slim dress watch though. Take it to a jeweler that knows Cellini watches. Admittedly I just figured there would be some sort of edge you could pop it off with a pop off tool, since the Cellini line don't use an oyster case. But I do see your point. Also the K114 is likely supposed to say 14k but they screwed up.

It looks authentic with a redone dial to me.
Need to see inside the case to be sure. |

I am guessing it is a front load watch, and you would have to pop the bezel off and pull the movement out of the case. You have to look and see where the seam is at, don't just take a knife to the back and start yanking. It will just scratch the case.
Looks like actual 14k gold to me, not plate. That is why I am assuming it is authentic with a redone dial. K1 is probably a makers mark. Last edited by MILGAUSS88; 19 October 2019 at 11:38 AM.. Reason: ... |

There are many bracelets made by Rolex under contract in many foreign countries outside of Switzerland, mostly because of import restrictions in certain countries. Other misconceptions about Rolex... Rolex made quartz powered watches, they made gold plated watches and they supplied movements to be put in other companies cases. Im not going to let an Italy mark close my mind to the possibly of being genuine.

You know that gold does look legit. Real gold always has a slight bronze color to it. Also no swiss does not mean anything. I had a Air king for about a week and sent it back and it did lack the swiss on the dial. Although the dial was redone. Also the Crown looks really good and not flat and bland like most fakes. Post some really good high res of the dial and rest of the watch. That would help.

This is why asking questions like these is pointless here. There are only 4-5 people who actually know what they are talking about, the others just post "junk" without having any clue. Case and everything looks good on this one, just a bad redone dial.

I’ve decided I’ll take it in, when I return from a trip next week. Once I have 10 posts, I’ll follow-up with some 4K pictures.

Send to RSC, if it’s fake, they’ll refuse to work on it. Simple as that. If it’s real, they’ll tell you what needs to be done.

I have an AD certifying the piece. They will have it back to me Friday. So far, they have confirmed the gold is real and has the correct band.

Well, turns out it is a counterfeit piece. The AD bought the gold for $675 USD. Thanks for the assist on this one guys. I am getting closer to picking an Omega piece.

The jeweller is going to post a thread about the gold stamping authenticity now...
