OP39 too similar to a DJ41?
Looking to buy a OP 39 White Dial to go alongside my DJ 41 blue dial, smooth bezel on a jubilee. Y’all think these watches will be too similar? Was thinking of using the OP as an everyday and then the DJ for more ‘fancy’ occasions. Would love to see some pics of the OP 39 white dial in the wild too!

Do it! It's so beautiful, especially the white dial, and looks much better in person. You'll love it.

I think the DJ combination you have is different enough to warrant an OP.

Too similar. I often have to do a double take on the smooth bezel DJs to confirm if there's a cyclops.

I think that those two would make a great two watch rotation.

I think a bit similar but you could trade the DJ to the fluted, I think DJ should come fluted imho.

I think a sub or explorer would make a better 2 Rolex combo with your DJ.

Except, OP’s DJ has a smooth bezel. Sounds like you have made up your mind to me OP you should get what you want regardless of similarity. Look at all the members with a whole box full of every iteration of Submariner DNA watches. At least yours has different dial color and bracelet. |

I would get the Explorer I instead of the OP especially if your DJ is smooth. That would make for an awesome daily and keep your DJ for special occasions.

I like the white on the OP39. It's a softer white and less paper white. But it if you really love it and will wear it.

Went to my AD yesterday, yes, they are the identical in my eyes. Get the fluted one for some variants.

Worth it alone for the difference in size.

I vote for too similar however you may already have a lot of variety in your collection.

I don't understand people stating they're completely different. In my opinion they're incredibly similar. They both sit in the same segment of dressy/sporty, can be worn with a t-shirt or sports jacket, both undeniably Rolex. In my mind, justifying a watch as completely different means its suitability is tailored towards other scenarios. There's no occasion where an OP or DJ would be appropriate but the other wouldn't, so you'll constantly be having to pick one over the other.
If I were you I'd be looking at something more robust, a diver of some sort, or something more toolish like a pilot, or if you tend to dress up often then perhaps a JLC Ultra thin of some sort. These will offer you real variation. |

i think OP and DJ are similar......they both can be sporty and dressy, i would get something different......maybe from the sports category

Agree with this. I have a DJ41 now (same as OP), but would like to add a sports watch at some stage for weekend and casual, DJ41 is perfect work watch for me, and smart dress at weekends. Seems a bit to ‘shiny’ for casual weekend though! Have my name down for a BLNR, may be a while, but that suits me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No worse than having date date and no date sub.

If you're starting with no watch whatsoever and choosing 2 for your work/casual needs, I don't think a DJ/OP pairing is ideal. They overlap a lot, though one could certainly pick a DJ in fluted/jubilee configuration and this would help.
I'm in this exact consideration. I have a DJ fluted/jubilee and have considered an OP for casual wear. I like the brushed oyster and domed bezel, but the stick hands and fairly low lume doesn't really fit my desire for a spot/casual watch. It's still too dressy for my needs. I considered picking up a 3/6/9 OP in 36mm and then swapping hands to a sub for the mercedes sports look. And while this works....it's still not as good as an Explorer (for me) with the inverted triangle at 12 o'clock. Food for thought. I find the handset between the two to be too close for my needs. |
