Question about steam and tube of the crown

I have a Rolex Day-Date 18K which I have recently purchased, I noticed that the tube and steam that holds the crown that you use to set the time and date is not 18K gold, it looks liks regular steel (at least the color seems like steel) is this normal?

I took the watch to Rolex and they gave me their OK saying the watch was good to go, but I forgot to ask them if that was normal.

Thanks!

Very normal. I have seen gold tubes also. The reason for this is that the crown is actually a steel crown with a SOLID GOLD cap, not to be confused with gold plating. The Steel to steel contact is better than gold to steel since gold threads could be easily screwed up, no pun intended.
