Are the 36mm Rolexes 'perfect size'?

I started my Rolex collection from vintage 40mm GMT Master 16750 matte dial, GMT Master II 16713, Explorer II 16570, Daytona 116503; 42mm Explorer II 216570; to 43mm SD43 126600 among others. I recently have more than 10 Rolexes with 40-43mm.

I'm perfectly fine with larger size Rolexes as I'm about 5'9 (175cm) and 7.5inch (19cm) wrist and I even comfortably wear the chunky 44.8mm Seiko Astron Dual Time.

Last week I bought my first 36mm Rolexes (DJ1601, DJ16014 and DD1803) and having worn all these 3 in rotation for about a week, I started to question if 36mm is indeed the sweet spot, at least that's how I feel.

At first 36mm feels a tad small compare to my SD43 for the first day or so but after the third day, I've grown comfortable, in fact more comfortable with the 36mm and not sure if I'd look forward to be wearing my 42-43mm Rolexes anymore.

Anybody else have the same feeling? If yes please share some photos of your 36mm Rolexes.

Yes they are perfect to me. 34-36 is the most elegant and versatile they have ever made IMO.

I first thought vintage 40mm is my perfect size, but after my 36mm, I'm not so sure anymore

I used to think 40mm was the perfect size for me until I had a datejust. Like you, the watch felt small at first, but after a few days, it felt perfect. Going back to the 40 now seems clunky, it’s clearer for me since I have small wrist

For me, 36mm is a great size. It has just the right wrist presence.

Nice 36s.

I’m into different sizes. IMHO each watch needs to be considered separately. For my Datejust model I like 36mm. For my Zenith Pilot Extra Special I’m loving the 45mm, the 40mm version doesn’t appeal to me. My GMTs are perfect at 40mm. My Patek 5124 is vastly better sized than the older 5024. My new Omega AT 38.5 is perfect for me and the 41 is not.

Within model is different than between models.

A 36mm Submariner would likely not be anyone’s perfect sized Rolex.

Refreshing mentality.

Personally, a traditional 40mm Rolex case is what I consider perfect for my wrist. If I were ever to get a Day-Date, I'd get the 36mm option.

I prefer 39mm for my dressier watches, but I do consider 36 fine for a man's watch in non-sporty contexts. A lot depends on the watch, of course. If I got a DJ or DD, especially if I'm wearing it on a strap, I'd personally always go for the larger size.

The lugs on the Datejust (let's be honest, any modern Rolex save for the Ciellini) take up slightly more real estate on the wrist than you'd think. I tried a DJ36 at the AD and it felt like I was wearing something in a 38-39mm range.

Personally, I've found that the DJ41 was just a bit too big. I'm not a petite person.

Perfect size for Todays modern woman. These size threads are so silly. IT DEPENDS ON YOUR WRIST SIZE

For your wrist DJ and DD no doubt are prefect. Nice tuxedo DJ btw

Agreed. I dont mind sports watches up to 42 but for dressier watch like DJ/DD, they’re just too big IMO

The more I wear my 36mm Explorer the less I feel it has to do with wrist size (7.5 inch here). I think it’s more about a state of mind. Am I content with the great do-all watch I have, or do I just want to buy buy buy something. Inevitably the buy buy buy voice calls for something bigger. But I think that voice just wants something new in its life - could be a car, motorcycle, watch, etc. Because the truth is 36mm is a fantastic size and would suit just about anybody.

I like 34mm-36mm a lot, but I have plenty of watches outside that range.

As mentioned Kalo, i have a not so small wrist at 7.5. That’s what i first thought this size now perfect for women but after wearing it for a week, 36mm doesn’t look that bad on me and it actually felt good with enough wrist presence
