Can my new Sub sit in my safe box?
So I had two cars and just sold my FJ and decided to do something a little different with the proceeds....so I took half and a 2019 Submariner Date through a watch company I know in LA who bought it through an AD in Brazil....I have a TAG I bought years ago and wear and i only want to wear the sub on special occasions 1 - 2 x a month and i want to pu in my safe box the rest of the time...how long can I leave it in my safe box? At this point I want to leave to my son so its a long term hold. I have two questions...was the $12k i paid decent or horrible and how long can I leave in my box if it were to be for an extended period of time?

Not sure why you would put something worth that amount of money in a safety deposit box?
I would insure it and keep it at home. Doesn’t have any sentimental value (yet), if and when it does, home safe and house alarm is probably as secure anyway (form a UK perspective though). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why would you even dream of wearing a TAG when you can wear a Sub?
A sub is for wearing, not putting in a box somewhere. Was 12k ok? You decide: https://davidsw.com/watches/rolex/submariner/ |

To answer your questions, yes you can let it sit in your safety deposit box for as long as you wish.
And 12k is high if we’re talking SS model. |

No issue with the watch sitting in the safe. However what a shame to buy such a piece and put away. Its a tough watch and made to be worn - It's not glassware.

I don’t even know what this question means...Is this a bank “safe box” or something in a hole in your back yard?

Okay, first, 12K is the current market value but market value can change over time. It will likely go down, then plateau, then slowly appreciate. This is over a long period of time. Ignore the smart-assed comments by posters who will tell you that you overpaid and they would never overpay. Sanctimonious comments go with the territory.
I agree with the others. Insure your Sub and then wear it. Put your tag in the safe, or bury it and hold a brief but touching ceremony. Your son will appreciate the Sub not for its investnment potnetial but for the fact that you wore it every day and that it was important to you. Those are the memories he will cherish. Just wear the hell out of it. |

Like the others have said, wear it! It’s a waste of money not to. And I have sons, all of whom will get a watch from me. Each watch will be well worn and well cared for.
From your son’s standpoint, what sentimental value is there for a watch that has been in a safety box for so many years? My kids will be able to say ‘my dad wore this for many years, and now it is with me’ .

I think wearing it and handing it down with your blood on that watch will mean far more to your son when you hand it down than a brand new watch.

First, since you bought the watch, don’t ask if you got a good deal. It’s too late.
Second, if you plan on passing it on to your son, your son should want to keep it. If it sits in a box that he never sees, it will only be a thing that is worth money. There is very little sentimental value in money. If you wear it and enjoy it, you can share that experience with him. It will be something he remembers about YOU. So where it in good health. These watches are meant to be lived in. |

Just wear it and enjoy, then hand over when he is old enough to appreciate it too

12k is a lot for a Sub.. I could have gotten one a few months ago a SubC date full set and only a few months owned for $9400.00. MSRP is 8500.00 so 12K is high.

Most do wear their watches and enjoy them. I would like to think the OP is the exception to the rule rather than the norm

A safe deposit box is not necessarily safe. The bank, if it is a bank, provides no insurance for theft, fire, natural disaster or mysterious disappearance. You must insure items of value in a safe deposit box. And things go missing more then banks admit Read this sad story that happened to a watch collector.

if Your question is “can a watch sit for several weeks between wear” the answer is yes. To your second question, yes $12,000 is too much

Why does this feel like a troll job?
The irony of it all... Is my watch gonna be okay in a safe? Think about that, just for a minute. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk |

But, welcome! And continue to read here, which I hope will change your mind about only wearing it 1-2x per month. Your son might appreciate the watch more if he sees it on your wrist often. Its presence on your wrist will be attached to memories. |
