Saw a steel Daytona and BLNR on jubilee today

New and shiny on two sales women at Rolex today. For some reason it rubbed me the wrong way. You would think Rolex would want these watches out to the general consumer. Who knows, maybe they the bought them gray. I have no desire to own either of these watches. I’ve had both. Just seemed like rubbing it into the faces of the many who stop in to buy.

My sales women at the AD got a new Rolex recently. Think she said something like they get a deal on one every five years. Good for them. Why spite someone else having one? Particularly somebody that makes their living representing the brand. Seems pretty petty of you.

From my AD, I do know that they can purchase a SS, a TT, and a PM at cost. The only caveat is they have to be engraved. I do not know about wait or allocation for them.

I would think as enthusiasts we would want all SAs to be passionate about the watches they sell and not just working a 9 to 5 job. While reality is much different, there are quite a few SAs who are enthusiasts and of course they have watches of their own.

Lots of people wear Rolex watches. Even the SAs at my AD have been known to wear them. The boss woman told me she was going to get a BLRO.

Seems that greys, flippers and now Rolex staff are all greedy, unscrupulous parasites because they have things that some other people don't have. Who will get the hate next? And what will be the ever thinner justification for such intolerance?

Many of us are lucky enough to own Rolex watches. We don't own the people who sold them to us. I think a majority of us know this.

??? Chill buddy! They too are consumers who have every right to make a purchase of whatever they wish, with their hard earned cash.

Me personally? I would hope that a SA at a Rolex store would care enough about the brand to personally own one. I can't imagine it pays that well. If they get some teeny perc like getting to actually own one of them for a bit less then good for them. I imagine it's still a shit ton of money for some 20 something. Or even 30 something.

While you have a point, I can say this doesn't bother me in the least. Unless they would sell them off their wrist for the current "market value". Most of my purchases have been made from AD's who are also watch enthusiasts. It's hard for me to get mad at someone for loving watches and taking advantage of an opportunity to purchase a watch that they love.

In full disclosure, I have both a ceramic Daytona and a BLNR (new jubilee), so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Also, Art, please don't misunderstand, my intention is not to discredit your view in any way, I am just expressing my feelings when I have run into this same scenario.

A kind sales woman let me try her ceramic Daytona black, she explained that she finally got the approval to buy one after 22 years of service. It was very clear that they cant just go ahead and secure them when they want, at least in my AD. I was pleased for her.

2 AD contacts I can immediately think of :

One has a BLNR, the other has a white ceramic Daytona.

They work in the industry and in the most it’s not amazingly paid, so why shouldn’t they have pick of the range occasionally? (They do have to pay full MRSP in most cases for the most desirable steel sports models). I’ve heard from someone in a big chain that they used to get one piece every so many years at a big discount including steel sports Rolex. However that changed and they can now apply to buy the piece but no discount at all.

The lady with the white Daytona really loves that watch and wears it everyday..

She waited for it as well.

I think its important the SAs where the watches of their own brands! I think its great they have the opportunity to purchase the wonderful watches of the company that they work for, because presumeably they like the company and the watches. Good on them.

Rubbed the wrong way?! Somebody has to wear them even if it is the SA.

If you or I worked in an industry and knew it very well and knew there was a way to make £7,000 for free in that line up at work and that it was legal we would all do it

Can’t blame them and they probably waited years

Although maybe wearing it to work is not the smartest as it could discourage others from buying other watches. May put some off having to bundle and do the dance to eventually get what the SA is wearing.

Today's Rolex climate now also makes people bitter and envious it seems. I see nothing wrong with an SA getting to buy a watch. They are middle class hard workers like most of us. It's the one small luxury they are likely to be able to afford themselves just by the employee discount, unless they are the owner or relative they are not swimming in money or have an S-Class parked out front.

I'm more butthurt that vvips get first right of refusal on all the cool toys, vs real enthusiast peasants like most of us. I don't care about social media or street flexing of my wrist, I just like the watch, yet it's unattainable today, and guess what, of all the causes on why this situation exist you pick the one person which is likely the least(or second to the average wis like me) responsible for what is happening.

This post is just sad, sorry.

It’s a sad person who would begrudge a lowly paid sales assistant wearing a nice watch.

Consider it from another view. If you bought and flipped a stainless Daytona and BLNR then you took away someone's chances to purchase as well (or increased their wait times at a minimum), especially if you admittedly had no desire to own them in the first place. At least these two sales associates bought and kept theirs to wear and enjoy.

I was thinking Mayors? I noticed that the last time I was there! and sure enough, I see you have Orlando in your profile... if so, that place is the worst. There is a guy (I forget his name, maybe Tim), he is awesome! The rest of them are simply awful.

It would rub me the wrong way if they had say a grand seiko or a casio on. How can a Rolex AD condone its sales staff to wear another brand of watch? Wouldn’t that be veiled anti-marketing?

All of the SA’s at my dealer wear Rolex, mine usually sports an Explorer II but I know he has others as well. And enough with the myth that AD salespeople are poorly paid. At my dealer they are all career professionals, no part time students or the like.

It’s just a perk. In my mind that is the least the AD can do for the lack of inventory. Shoot if I was a jewelry and watch salesman you they would need to give me a great deal on a watch to work all those hours and take all those calls of people looking for watches. I actually feel bad for them. Although they are getting watches and selling how however the manger or owner wants. The salesmen and women have a bunch of sales they miss out on daily not having stock. It took me 2 yEars to see a blro, stainless Daytona’s , hulk and blue face sky d to see if I liked them. I only saw them because my gray dealer had them. I would love to see some of these at AD even if on an employees wrist.

Well put. These people are losing so much money in commission with lack of inventory. Give them a nice watch I’m fine with that. All the hours worked I sure couldn’t do it. My AD said 90 percent of calls are about watches. What a beating

Can confirm... most AD sales can get a new/hot release every 3-5 years depending on the spot but must get it engraved.

Na...those watches are a dime a dozen around my parts. I wouldn't care what a SA wears in a store.

I think mine wears a Patek. I think Patek sucks...but they can wear with they want.

You are 100% correct. Mine both make a decent six-figure salary. They are not poorly paid at all.
