After a 12month wait my AD called..

..to give me my warranty card..

Sadly they didn't have another watch for me..but I'm pleased to have my warranty card back that they confiscated last year.

Noting this is now a FULL SET. A SS watch from 2018 is not a 'full set' unless it has the photocopied warranty card, both sides.

What a weird “requirement” that was, glad it’s in your hands now.

Back story is.. AD kept my warranty card for a year to make it difficult for me to sell my watch. Now after 12 months, they have decided that I could have it back.

Why would it make it difficult for you to sell? Are you saying that the watch is not sellable because in order to submit it for warranty work in the first year, the next buyer would have to have your warranty card?

I thought the warranty started when the watch was purchased, and Rolex knows when the watch was purchased?

Yes but buyers are generally put off buying a new watch without it’s warranty card.

Sort of.. but not quite.
In order to get the warranty card from the AD after 12months, the original buyer must present the watch with some ID to confirm who they are. If I had sold this watch, the next man would not get the warranty card. No warranty card, no warranty. It would never be a 'full set' either and most buyers want a 'full set'.

Also, I often ask to look over pre-owned watches in greyD's, some of them would refuse to take my watch in px without the card.
..not that I would trade or sell it anyway, it's a keeper.

I like the guys at WoS, I'm just not a fan of their selling practices.

I guess that’s the drill in the UK..? Picked up my new Sub Date the other day and they sent the card home with me.

They just insisted on sizing it (which is fine) and removing the stickers. They missed a couple though.

After a year, you might want to send the card into RSC for a light polish :)

No

Warranty started day of purchase. Having the card isn't required for warranty work, just makes it easier to prove. A reciept would be enough

Congrats, but I gotta say that's a wierd practice. If I bought a new car in cash and they didn't give me the title when I walked out the door, well, I wouldn't buy it! Guess it doesn't really matter since a) you got the card finally and b) Rolexes are reliable enough that they generally don't need warranty service the first few years...

Of course it was covered by warranty, since date of purchase. You don't need the card for warranty coverage, proof of purchase would be enough. The card just makes it easier/quicker. Not losing anything by not having the card
