Be on the lookout, Submariner bezel at large.

Under the heading of "this would suck", I was talking to an acquaintance the other day and notice that he did not have his TT Sub Date on. When queried, he told me that during a fishing trip he was releasing a fish and the bezel released off the watch at the same time, sadly into the water. All I can think of is he must have really knocked the watch on something to jar the bezel lose enough to launch itself.

Hmm, pity, a TT SD would be a rare collectors item.

oops, sorry, please excuse me for I'm new to the lingo. I meant Sub Date, not Sea Dweller, I fixed it.

Here's what happened to a friend of mine. He was boating and had his wrist bent sharply bracing on the edge of the boat and the watch band broke and his 1979 GMT fell into Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans. He dove after it and scraped the bottom with his hands but couldn't find it. The bracelets of that era are much thinner than today's bracelets, but I suppose it could still happen.

I once caught the bezel of my watch under a part of my suitcase. The bezel came off when I lifted my hand with all the bits flying in different directions. Your friend has my sympathy

I caught the bezel on my vintage 5513 on my car door in the dark. I was able to find it, but the tritium pearl was jarred loose and never to be seen again.
